2gb to 4gb?

Perhaps we should start a 4gb owners thread where we can post about all our goot times of 4GB ram ownership and scoff at anyone who doesn't size up :D

Then I will run my RSVP special 1337 16GB ram club and make sure you're not invited!

Anyways, it's cool to see many people using 4GB of ram, at home, my computer uses 4GB DD2 and the ram is shoddy TwinMos ram (4 x 1GB)...but even with the shoddy ram the boot times are awesome and the games loading times and movies start times from load to run are extremely fast! Im v.happy with it!

Those who are in two minds about upgrading the RAM, it's definately worth it!

Memory is great.

Computer = 6Gb ECC Reg DDR400
Laptop = 2Gb DR333
Phone = 1Gb Transflash (Wow, now thats tiny)
Camera = 2Gb Extreme III 133x Compact Flash

Total = 11Gb of gadget memory.

Anyone got more?

Easy :p

Main PC 4 GB Ram
Workstation 4GB Ram
Other Half's PC 2GB ram
2 Laptops, both 2GB Ram
Tablet PC 768MB
5 Servers, 2.5GB Ram, 2GB, 1.5GB Ram, 1GB Ram and 384MB accordingly
2 XDA Mini-s 1GB each
2 Raxr v3x 1GB each.

EDIT - Forgot Camera ram,

4GB Extreme III in Canon 350D and 1GB in my iccle Sony Cam

...so it's now 29.2GB :p

And a stack load of ram lying around...does that count as well?

the problem is not "more memory = better", its whether it gets used or not.
for a desktop PC, it is ridiculous... and the cash spent on 4GB of ram could be used elsewhere.

if your system only needs 1.5GB or 2GB then your going to have the rest of it just sitting there doing nothing at all.

if your machine is constantly accessing the memory and you hit limits of 3GB+ a heck of a lot, then yes i can see it helping.

and as far as load times go, if your talking about OS times: a fast hard drive will stomp over a shed load of ram. if your talking about APPs and games: then again if it doesn't need to use more than 1GB to load a level/scene then you will see no improvement using more...

These are good times. It can only go quicker, smaller, cheaper. I bet you've got some single sided 30 pin 128K's lying around as well... :)

I'm pretty sure you'll win come what may :D

im not really sure why your all busting his chops about him having 4 gigs of ram

isnt Vista supposed to be 2 gigs min for games , anyway it never hurts to have to much of anything be it Ram , Hard Disk space cpu speed etc

We're not being mean, just making it clear that currently 4gigs isn't going to benefit most people (and having some friendly banter :D).

well 4gigs gave me a benefit. heheh i love it. 2 gins in my lappy is not too bad. more ram in a laptop is crucial since lappy hard drives are generally slow so want to avoid as much pageing as possible

well i would welcome any more memory upgrades myself since im constantly in Photoshop or some 3d rendering program.

But do upgrade the rest of your system along,

;)

Im "ok" with my 3gb of Geil.

Cyber you need to try your ram out on Vista, today is the last day for free beta trial signups. It has a 3d virtual interface instead of alt-tab, I bet it can use the memory

Vista is virtually the same as XP/Win2003 server but it uses about 500MB ram on an initial installation, moving up to about 700MB with general use (before running any apps) I cant see it being much different with either 2GB or 4GB (without the apps)

whoa howcome vista uses so much ram up? just its fancy 3d view? also does this mean the faster your gfx card the better vista runs? if thats the case then pointless having 2d and 3d clock speeds since the card will always have to be doing 3d? or is that classed as low power 3d?

hmm vista is very iffy. any screenshots of its 3d view?
