2gb to 4gb?

This is just a quick go on karkland, full 64 players. Everything on medium, no AA . 1.1k by 864 res and high textures. Full clean boot but no processes or services ended before entering game, clean install of winxp pro x32 about a week ago.

I think it would go higher, I only visted about 4 bases, in a jet cruising over an entire map I could believe 1.6gb.

Thats really odd I've been playing all evening with loads of other stuff running in the background, graphics maxed out and my peak commit is 1269048K

It peaks just after a map load I find, it dumps what it doesn't need after that.

I thought a lot of the problems with forced 2Tcommand were AMD processor related due to onchip memory controller ? its definate on some AMD64's but don't know about opteron, just a thought :p

right done some image rendering today and all me 4 gigs was being cained. need more ram now as 4gigs has helped speed things up loads.

yea, iv been eyeing up the fx 60. waiting to get it when its around 200 quid.

By the time its that much, you can by a next gen with 4 cores and 8 times more powerful, just get a 165/170 Opty and a X2 3800/4000/4200/4400 now and overclock it. FX-53s etc are still going for that amount on the bay.

Agreed.

You will be waiting a long time to get an FX60 for £200...

is there a way to setup a ram buffer in windows media player so that even files being read from hard drive are buffered into ram, or a certain amount of ram used as a buffer? could be helpful in streaming video and doing other hard drive related tasks.

That will happen anyway to some extent. You can increase the disk cache of windows to silly amounts if you like or you could place the file on a ramdisk for instant access

this thread makes me laugh, its like hes just ignored everyone, and just gone with 4 gigs, pah nevermind ive done it before.

Its definetly a very silly thread but Ive heard of worse mistakes then too much cheap ram really and at some point 4gb will become usefull even if it isnt now.

I was burning a dvd at 16x and Nero had the cheek to show the buffer nearly being depleted sometimes, ok my system needs a good defrag but there was 1.5gb of memory spare and it limits itself to 80meg, stupid thing

Elric, you should show the processes tab, what do you use it for?

you need to edit the registry to get nero to use a larger buffer size. you won;t find this information anywhere else so pay close attention. took me ages to work this out. as you can tell i spend most of my life inside the windows registry :D

to manually increase the size of the ultrabuffer. edit the value in registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder\WriteBufferSize value

do not increase size of buffer beyond 699886000 (667mb) or nero gives out of memory messages regardless of how much ram you have in your system.

good stuff ehh?? as shown above in the screenshot i have a use for 4 gigs of ram and for the price i paid for it its an amazing deal.

I use it for mostly for Virtual servers but also play PlanetSide on it. (That game is a memory hog. :( )

On the more serious note of 4GB usage, most of you will NOT see any benefit of using more than 1GB to be honest but there are some of us that do need more than 2GB on a daily basis.

If I was able to get hold of 2GB modules now, i'd be fitting 8GB in my box :)
