£2k got me..

stomerster

i was working on an a3 the other week with tt 6 spokes. weigh as much as the moon! timing wise, a group of us bought a Gtech RR. it does the usual timing (the the times are at most two tenths off compared to santa pod if you compare personal bests etc) but it also plots engine output. one of the aims i set when i got this car was to work against the diesel like power drop off. i wanted to gain 10lbft-15lbft at the top which i have done, and more. i was out with my brother earlier tonight doing more logging to see how the ecu is responding. as a result of that we have added more ignition advance due to what weve seen... its becoming a pretty quick car

fox. this one is remapped and then ive tweaked both the engine and the ecu since then. one thing it has done recently is put on a good show against a later ko3s stage 2 car (front mount, turbo back exhaust, stage two software etc). no difference in pace until the top of 4th...

the car got new bushes and lowered tonight. really impressed with it apart from the arb now interfacing with the driveshaft. need a fix for that as its annoying

I think Mk4's need longer droplinks, rather than shorter...although there seems to be a lot of contradicting information on that so you'd prob just have to have a look at the arb

...either that or a nice shiney new whiteline ARB :D

yup, the usual forum regurgitation syndrome. one person says one thing, loads of people regurgitate it else where. soon utter rubbish becomes gospel. same as the whole "get a whiteline arb" thing. people do it because thats what everyone else does...

i wish i could post up a pic of the arb now. the driveshaft is no longer under the "hoop", its impacting on the front. if the arb is lowered then the shaft will be back under the hoop and everyones happy

i may have to modify an oe metal item or modify an aftermarket one.

ill measure up the exact length i need and then buy/cut/shut a metal one and be done with it

6.4 seconds to 60 seems very low for a mk4 1.8t 150. Quicker than the 225 bhp Cupra R...

Best I ever managed (bearing in mind mine puts out ~265BHP at the fly) was 6.5s, G-meter timed.

did you have issues getting the power down in 1st and 2nd though?

i havent said the figures are gospel/corvit or datron spec, i dont have any reason to disbeleive them though, i dont have access to pukka timing gear, but g-meter stuff is consistent so it can prove gains.

as for 0-60, not sure who/what i could test it against to see

I would expect you to have to rape the hell out of a FWD to get a 0-60 iro 6.5 seconds, so your time achieved with "funky" tyres, and taking it easy on the clutch is a bit debatable!

You get the adjustable ones but they are weaker than solid metal ones for obvious reasons, also a waste of money if you're capable of cutting and welding up your own ones to necessary length

I can't comment on the front whiteline ARB, I can't see it making much difference in terms of handling at the front personally, although the rear whiteline ARB is an EXCELLENT handling mod for VAG hatchbacks

I don't see why there's uproar at a claimed 6.5s to 60, that's pretty normal for a remapped 150ps mk4 gti with nothing but a re-map

lol@having to rag a FWD for that 0-60 time

Must be pretty poor work/map on that modded car if there's no difference to yours with your own tweaks.

not really, stage 2 doesn't do much to bottom end at all, but allows more top end due to the front mount dramatically reducing heat soak and the exhaust system (mainly the larger downpipe) allowing better gas flow

he is currently going over his car looking for issues etc. it went stage 2 in jan this year, Revo iirc. maybe my tweaks have been particularly effective. with the whole g-meter thing ive gained the 10-15lbft that i wanted

From 8.2 seconds to 6.5 with a home brew remap?

Hmm, not so sure myself, also remember 60mph on the clock isn't 60mph in real life.

it wont be miles off.... im open to better suggestions, im all ears. im curious as to what it can do. it only seems to get used for the drive to work so i dont get much chance at TLGP in rush hour

Figure out what speed 60mph really is using GPS over a distance with a lock onto as many satellites as you can.

The plug in Vag-Com and log the engine speed and MPH blocks and drive past the speed the GPS states that 60mph is at.

Stick in a chart and post up.

and that.

i will report back in due course.

how can i get the best possible resolution on vagcom. from the logs i get it only refreshes every 0.4s-0.6s
