£2k got me..

I'll try and do a G-Tech run later on mine.

1.8T Running K03S, FMIC, Forge TIP, Uprated Airbix, Millet Cat Back. Custom Mapping. RR showing 230BHP Which is the max for a K03S But im not one to chase figure too much so i'd take that with a pinch of salt.

Will post pics of the G-tech later tonight

I'd be surprised if you were getting 200BHP on a K03 - Thought they max'd out at 190 although be interested to see if you could!

really not good. i had not owned one before i bought this. the people i spoke to about them all quoted the MFA figures. well it turns out that MFA is very very optimistic.

mine is getting bad mpg. i blame it on the tiny turbot. if you apply any throttle above 2krpm the turbot spins up and the ecu begins fuelling as per the volume of air flowed

im getting a boost gauge so that i can start to alter the boost.

im creating a map for motorway use/economy where itll run reduced boost and more timing to keep it efficient

the normal map has been tweaked anyway, but its crying out for more boost, but i cant alter anything without a gauge

Do you understand the term 'pumping losses' and how turbos help reduce this?

Reducing turbo boost for MPG is pointless, if you want MPG you don't go near full boost. Ideally you use the turbo to reduce pumping losses.

MPG Has never been a real issue, on a run down the motorway i covered 250 Miles and returned 34MPG - Pretty dam good (That is not Trip readings, that brimmed, then brimmed the tank and worked it out)

If i was keeping my car longer i'd be getting another remap, with a K04 I should be pushing between 240-260bhp with lots of the power staying towards the rev limiter.

with a laptop and software and a cable via the obd2

"200bhp" would be from more boost, more ignition, fuelling changes to match where necessary and basic optimisation of the intake system. exhaust and intercooler are standard still

What wideband are you using out of interest?

Too Wet to go out and do 0-60's now, in the dry i get wheel spin at the top of the rev range in 1st.

Last time i tried it was around 5.8ish though

lambda 1 is already wideband. you can monitor/log its response with vagcom.

it is motronic 7.5 as mr firestar said.

as for the ko3s, fmic etc etc and 230bhp, again i beleive a lot of that to be interweb folklaw as the figures people seem to claim vary so wildly once people start to think out of the box and push the envelope

with mine on the first gtech runs i used for varification it was getting 6.3s. at that point i was being kind to the clutch and since htne its gained lots of power. the purpose of those runs was to get the profile of the torque output to see what i gained. it gained c.15lbft on the downward slope of the torque curve which was beyond what i aimed for.

as for efficiency now, its actually pretty good since the last bout of changes (adding fuel as the load increased (ie came on boost)) actually made it more efficient as before it was getting pre ignition. with the added fuel it could run more timing consistently, which made it faster and more efficient

What are you using to map it?

This thread makes me happy that trying to get anything over my standard 197bhp will result in bits of piston coming out of the exhaust. :p

Yours should be good for about 13-14PSI if you remove the fuel cut, which should see you to about 210-215bhp?

I managed 4.5s to 60 in my derv, I installed the new 2011 professional satnav disc which rewrites the ecu and tunes everything perfectly

clearly the same works with this golf

kudos, quick and easy tuning rocks

Now, i've not really done any full bore launches in mine (which remains standard for now) but at stock they're meant to hit 8.2 seconds to 60. With this being an advertised figure, i'd guess they gave it some off the line to get that too.

As much as i'd love it to be true for when I come to remap mine, I find it hard to believe a ~50bhp increase lops 2 seconds off the 0-60 when you apparently weren't even launching it hard.

Especially as the Leon Cupra R, a car with 225bhp as standard, isn't anywhere near that quick either.

I always tend to take everything Matt says with a pinch of salt. Whilst he likes to come across as some sort of tuning expert it seems to be his biggest skill is his imagination.

My Corrado once did 5.1 on one of those performance meters.

Obviously when I plugged in VAGCOM, I fell asleep, dreamt I remapped it but it really happened and miracles gave it an 80bhp boost and 4WD.

Bear in mind the Cupra R weighs something like 150KG more than the Golf though. That said, it still seems a slightly ambitious claim to me.

If he is getting over 200bhp out of a K03 turboted 1.8T though, he ought to set himself up as a Golf tuner, as it's something Revo, GIAC, R-Tech etc. etc. haven't seemed to manage after a decade of fiddling with these engines :p

afr mix: variable
boost level : 0.7-1.1
power output : increase 10-90%

I suspect thats more questionable weight figures than anything - especially as apparently the 180bhp version of the 1.8T GTI weighs 90kg more than the 150bhp version, which seems odd.
