2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-II HARD DRIVE - JUST £79 inc VAT

So it's taken me 20 minutes to get any page on overclockers.co.uk to load.

Poor show OcUK. The offer was great but I would have assumed that you would have widened the pipes so people can access the page. Fair enough many people still wouldn't have got one but at least then people can say "ahh you guys were just too quick for me", other than not even being able to access the page.

I'm not going to be the type that says "I'm not shopping with you guys any more!" as that's not going to be the case. But I won't be trying something like this again.

Not too sure what the objective of this promo was. More forum members with 1 post that will probably never come back and be a part of the forums anyway or just more hits on the main site. Maybe next time just do a shop promo without the forum part or if you do want to offer forum members something maybe offer it to active forum members.

Some of the more loyal members which have more than "1" post might have deserved a little more than to be out done by people who just came to cash in on a bargain - its not very rewarding to loyal members it....

So why didn't you suggest this in the first place? I'm curious is being a forum member for so long a pull over people? or is it just important as to be a loyal customer? I mean I've been ordering for years and never bothered with the forum, i mean I've checked it every so often to have a look.

Do you think when any retailers have sales on decent items at cheap prices they keep theres back for loyal customers? not trying to start a flame I'm only pointing it out.

I understand people are annoyed - it was bound to happen though you need to get over it

Cant even buy anything else now... it still says 'We are sorry but we have run out of HD-227-SE, we do have this amazing offer from Hitachi for you though:' when confirming

I think it's the uncertainty that a lot of people have got a beef with. If you're not quick enough, fair enough, but if the website's giving some people randomly better access than others who turn up much later, then some orders fail at a different stage, that's when people get annoyed...

This exactly, i added to basket a couple seconds after i refreshed from the sold out status, so on a "first come first serve basis" i'd say i ranked pretty high and would have one. It was pure luck if you got through to the checkout and i'm quite certain that someone who added to basket after me has no doubt got one.

On the other hand, this was to be expected with only 50 pieces available and with so many punters, not dissapointed at all but it would have been a nice bargain and been useful for all my backups, and not end up on the bay.

Mummy I bought a lottery ticket and I didn't win. Cry, moan, whinge, wets pants.

What a bunch of babies.

It's more like, I bought a lottery ticket but the machine couldn't print it out because it was broken, and by the time it did, ticket sales had closed.

... The numbers came up :(

I got one in my basket I went all through the checkout and entered my security code for my card and click accept terms + conditions and clicked confirm order, the site processed the order and then seemed to crash I got the writing about the verified by visa but no login box loaded! and when I tried to refresh the page I was sent back to the checkout page saying you have already placed a order for a d-227-SE, as only one order per customer is allowed this order cannot be processed.

I have looked in my account and it isn't showing any orders!!!

Does this mean I've missed out??

me too.. submitted card details, entered code.. said processing... then nothing!!!!

My browser is still waiting to load confirmatin of order!!!

I fell Ive been robbed!!!

Same here. Got all the way through, and hit the "card verification/processing" thing. Then came up with "product not available blahh blahh".

Maybe OCUK should use the same as everyone else - add to basket = 1 less "available". When Available=0, no more can order. That way it can take 5 mins or 30 mins to complete the order, give the site chance to recover, and people to get what was in their basket, and what was (bar payment) rightfully theirs for getting in first. Oh and some additional bandwidth would have helped!

Yes i'm bitter. What should have been a first-come-first-served, was in fact a free for all....

We are very sorry but there was always going to be a lot of disappointed people when the offer was superb and limited to 50pcs.

50 people have succesfully ordered this product. Please accept my appology if you were unsuccesful.

Just a question on that for those of us who couldnt complete secure code, money wont be taken?

I don't understand why all the 1 post counters are complaining and saying they will never return. OCUK do great prices generally and how you can say no more business when missing ONE offer with only 50 units is beyond me. It was a promo. Nothing more than luck involved. I don't understand how you rate a company after one promo transaction.

Just because we've never posted before doesn't mean we've never used OCUK before!

Shame my first post had to be a negative one!

Lol...what a joke.
Next time just use a form valid for a certain amount of time like: "I'm interested in buying x item which is on special offer" and then just pic at random 50 lucky winners.
No server crashes/slow downs as there's no rush to be on the site at that exact time, no unhappy customers and you won't be seen as a joke company.
I'm sure a lot of new members won't be back.

See ya (but still...all of this mess was fun and it was enjoyable to watch...lol).
Have a nice day.

Most don't care that they lost out, its the fact the website could'nt handle the load.

Ocuk knew full well there would be high interest in this, yet obviously did'nt bother telling there host to boost there stuff for abit.

It has nothing to do with lottery and ****.

Im not angry or anything that i did'nt win, im just dissapointed that they left the site host as is for this, but ahwell.

To all those complaining - Do you all complain and kick up a fuss when you don't win the lottery?

True, but I think this could be handled a lot easier and without the website getting hammered etc if it was done more like a lottery. If all those that wanted it [i.e. all those that tried to order it] submitted an email request or similar over a period of time rather than all at once then 50 could simply be selected at random and then announced on the forums - I think people would get less riled up if they just saw the winners announced rather than have the frustration of a mass web-order. Saves all the hassle with the website and the frustration of those that got part way there and couldn't complete - surely this method would have been a no-brainer?!?!

I would have loved one, but win some lose some. Internal 500 errors @ Add To Cart stage stopped me getting one.

But, you all saying OcUK's servers suck donkey dong.... just think about how many people were set to view that page @ 1:30 today. I googled the drive and most of the results on the first two pages were linking to OTHER forums pointing out the bargain on offer too.

I can safely say I bet even the index page gets 25,000 unique views a day so imagine all of the extra traffic @ 1:30 this afternoon? It was bound to happen, I bet it'd happen to any large companies website if they did the same thing. I honestly believe that.

Nevermind, win some lose some :)

Look 3 posts before your's and you'll see we had a similar idea. ;)

There should have been a post count and join time limit on this one I feel. This was always going to be a joke.

That or just an actual lottery for forum members (no post limit). Same result, less complaining from the server provider...

edit; as many have said.
