30-70 thread

bobert - a video recording of either the speedo or TomTom is probably the best bet but to generate a few more entries we'll accept stopwatched times on a gentlemen's agreement of honesty :p

Hi there

Gotta be video only ideally. People idea of a stop watch might be counting in there head or the way they time might be different from anyone else.

Everybody has mobile phones and digital cameras these days so no reason really not to upload a video as evidence of 30-70. :)

"Representative" is an interesting word.
30-70 to me suggests being put in a position of wanting/needing to accelerate at short notice, so the questions I'd like to ask are:
- Should it be in a single gear?
- If using multiple gears, does that time include the time to change down from say 4th to second?
- If using an auto, should that be locked into an appropriate lower gear? Might not be possible in all cars.
In short, the conditions needs tidying up.

could i do 50-110kph

Its a bit hard judging 48.28032kph and 112.65408kph on a metric speedo :p

Mr_Sukebe, very good points but I'm not really sure - I was thinking along the lines of just getting there as fast as you can - In my first gentle pass (which I'm uploading) that was just in 3rd gear, rolling from 30-70 - and timing it as such.

If you have to change gear to complete that pass, then that time is justifiably included as that reflects the real-world 30-70.

I'm not sure really - opinions? I feel constraining it too much may just make it more complex than required :D

HERE IS A VID

When i say stuck behind an ambulance i mean one of those people carrier van ambulance things. The ones used to transport cripples, not a proper ambulance ;)

I count it a around 10 seconds, can probably improve on that on a clearer road. Dont think its too bad for a 1.4 Pug 306.

Handy hint - the back of Autocar lists 30-70 times for quite a few cars and whats more they are accurate times which they actually got, using proper test gear. Sometimes they are a bit slower than they ought to be due to prevailing conditions on the day, ie, the wet (The 530i time was recorded in the wet) but wet roads generally dont make THAT much difference to something like 30-70 so I consider them highly accurate.

According to that the 111R is
30-70mph 4.9 sec

No idea if that's good or bad?

EDIT MGF is 30-70mph 8.7 sec

HI there

What does a 111R Weigh, what is the engine and power output?

At a guess I'd say that was pretty damn quick but too am a little unsure.

860kg, 1.8l engine, 189BHP

Yep, I thought it was about 5 seconds too.

I'm not sure how accurate that is though... but you can add it to the list if you want :D

I reckon it's closer to 6.
