30-70 thread

Aren't speedos generally around 10% out at 70mph? My TomTom seems to indicate that on most cars that I've tried it with.

Maybe those using a speedo should do a 33-77mph :p

Gave this a few attempts on the way home, using a stopwatch I got an average of 4.6, using the speedo & going up to 75.

Not the most accurate way to meaasure though, so could be completely wrong. Will give it a go later with a video once I've sorted out a safe way to put the phone so it can see the speedo!

oh yeah, 2006 BMW Z4M btw... Tried looking it up on autocar's site for the official figure, but couldn't see one? Fox, or anyone with Autocar, is it listed?

You can yes... depending on the car! I started in second as first would have meant just about an immediate change...

Im yet to see a car that can reach 112kph in first.

Apart from maybe gibbos but even then i think he needs to use 2nd

HI there

Unless your car is reasonably new and has an electronic ECU or one where you can adjust the revolutions per mile.

I spent a long time getting my speedo accurate against GPS due to the fact my speedo actually under-read because the US tuners inputted the incorrect wheel/tyre size into my tune. An under-reading speedo is very bad for obvious reasons, thankfully I got it sorted and as such avoided many speeding tickets.

Its now absolutely bob on, to both GPS and what the car should max out in each gearing according to my rear-end axle and wheel/tyre size. :)

Found 4.6s as the figure on there, although there is 3 different reviews for Z4Ms...

Had a look at random cars on the autocar website, 30-70 figure for a Caterham 7 R500 is 2.6s

Well, to be fair he hasn't specifically said car... from what I remember some supersports bikes (gsxr1300 for example) can do a fair bit over that in first!

Hi there

Here is mine:-
http://media.putfile.com/Saleen-Mustang---30-70mph-acceleration-Takes-28s

Using the online stop watch it comes out between 2.6-2.9s its that quick its a little hard to time.

30-80mph seems to take 3.5s and obviously the acceleration carries on a similar fashion all the way upto 165mph, hence why the only things that have kept up or overtaken have generally been motorbikes. :)

P.S. Where is a good place to host the file because that putfile website seems crap?

EDIT You tube link:-

Quick aside... as I haven't dropped into motors very often in the last few weeks

I thought that Gibbo had got rid of the Saleen to someone with a first refusal option... did that al go through or did I just dream it?

H'mm that is pretty sharpish.

Hit the rev limiter please :) :p

Hi there

Yep I stopped the recording a little short, but limiter is around 82-85mph and it sounds ace on de-acceleration run as get lots of crackling and popping like a TVR, very metallic sound, but very nice. :)

Shame its going, but at least I know what my next car needs to better. :D

Will also run the BMW 525i SE next week, now its speedo is out so from a video clip its gonna seem quicker than it is, but hey it will need all the help it can get. :D
