30xx Series Founders Edition

Installed the 3080 FE the coil whine is annoying hope it improves I aint played with Under volting yet but feel it shouldnt be this annoying at stock the changes pitch as the FPS changes :(

Oh dear. Is it a well-known issue on the FE models?

My 3060 Ti has been silent. Hopefully my 3080 won't whine.

What are people running on these as far as mining tweaks and core reductions to get rid of whine?
Out of the box its faster than my tweaked 3060Ti but the fans ramp up, want to stop that lol

Yeah that will be your memory temps hitting 100c when mining, either stick fans at 90% or replace thermal pads. I did it on a mates 3080 and his temps went from 108c to 87c. Should not be any whine when mining with reduced clocks and min voltage set.

For gaming and coil whine, experiment with how low you can get the voltage at a set clock speed with afterburner.

It's completely random. I have a friend who paid £1200 for a MSI suprim x 3080 and it has terrible coil whine yet another who has a FE 3080 with zero coil whine. The MSI suprim x is meant to be top end and only better is usually the Rog strix from asus but some argue they are on par or MSI is actually better.

Under volting helped a lot for me on the coil whine.

I am running 1,850MHz at 850mV.

Yeah I'm not actually getting whine, I just wanna know how far I might have to knock it back if I do.

At the mo I'm running 65%, -500, +1000 and its sat at 57oC.

I expect I'll get more out of it but for now I just want to get it running before I go away, the proper tweaking will take place once I'm back from Greenland.

VRAM temperature is the main one to look out for

yeah its annoying shouldnt be just down to lottery

will look into undervolting tomorrow doesnt help I have the side panel off and right next to me but the way the pitch changes depending the FPS in game is annoying

All FE cards I have ever had to deal with whine and I'm talking about over 35 of them here, 28 3090 fe's (for work workstations they were in pairs NVLINKed) they all whined to a point and some worse than others and some we sent back to be replaced they were that bad but new ones were either a bit better or worse, 3080 FE my workmate has whines too but he can't hear it where minute it went into a game with high fps it whined loud to me and also the 3080 ti Fe at my friends again whines and he can hear it but doesn't annoy him as he uses speakers when gaming and pretty loud he plays it.

I don't think it comes down to a lottery, I think comes down to how bad it really is and how good the eharing is of the owner. Whine annoys the hell out of me and electrical noise and high pitched sounds from electrical devices. I can even hear the whine of phone chargers sometimes from a long distance away from the wall socket. So depends on you too.

Just be happy you didn't get one with grinding fans as they are the best ones in the FE range. A good few of the 3090s we sent back for replacements also had fans that rattled or made grinding noises, in the end we replaced all the 3090s in the workstations with blower aib cards and regular 3 fan aibs for the workstations as we got fed up of the 3090fes and their headaches from temp problems to whine to fans.

It's definitely a lottery. I have heard both cards of my friends and one is silent and the other is noisy. I have perfect hearing and i too can hear noises others can't especially high pitch and electrical whines. My Dyson fan for instance I can hear it whining when it's I'm standby from across the room yet nobody else can. The fact the cheap card is silent and the expensive one with much better parts noisy proves how much of a lottery it is.

I'm now a 3070 owner from 3060 Ti.. I managed to grab a FE for £100 + my 3060 Ti and as I wanted the extra oomph I thought why not! seems to be a good clocker too.. +175mhz core ( haven't tried more yet.. peaks 2100mhz ) + 1100 Memory ( glitches at 1200 so 1100 is my limit ) Well made card just like the Ti!

How on Earth did they manage to buy that many? Were they bought as complete systems?

You will find if you seek it, there are many research labs and university type setups where they all decide they need a multi-gpu unit for testing/learning. Whilst they cannot go to the one UK retailer that limits one per account there must be channels they can steer through where they are able to get a large order.

I do hate coil whine when it's loud and noticeable. I had a card ages ago (can't remember the model) that was fairly bad and just whined up and down with the fps.

Been fairly lucky the last few years and haven't had any with any whine.

Isn't it just basically bad luck with a noisy capacitor (or capacitors)?

Hi guys,

Took receipt of my shiny new 3060ti FE yesterday and all seems good... apart from none of my temp monitoring apps (GPUID etc.) are recording a fan RPM for the card. Its reporting as zero RPM.

Idle temps are good and it seems to make a bit of fan noise when I turn my system on.

I've not gamed yet or stressed it under any load. Is this normal or have I got a faulty unit?

Thanks.
