30xx Series Founders Edition

Its sunk into the lower half of the box, its about half the height you're seeing there its as long as a brick and more than half its thickness and weighs just about as much

4090 to be the full size of a brick lol

Yeah it's too big for my case, rather wait for the 4080 probably cost about the same as 3090 lol.

Finally got my 3080 FE RMA completed (after almost 3 weeks). Took about 2 weeks for my card to arrive in Hong Kong and got my replacement today.

The fan still makes a scratchy noise so I can only reach the conclusion that there's a manufacturing fault and most people don't notice it because they're not OCD / don't run silent PC builds. Oh well, maybe I'll upsell to a 4000 series when they launch.

I'll add that they sent me a brand new card.

So it's a weird one. If I wanted to be cynical, the fact that they accepted my RMA implies that they acknowledge that the FE fans have a design flaw which produces a scratchy noise, but I've owned 3 FE cards now and they've all produced it.

I should find something more interesting to concern myself with I suppose :p
I had this too with mine. I should have RMAd it really. But Ive put a block on anyway.

Simple inspection shows it is the port side fan, and it's some rubbing inside the fan unit itself.

I'm sure in a few months the fan will be available from China and then it's a easy swap. That or I'll dissemble it and fix it it I ever need to use the fan again.

From the videos i've seen it's very non-trivial to replace the fan on an FE card unfortunately. I think I remember you (or someone else) mentioning that the used a block and it solved the issue but unfortunately I'm just not that way inclined; I absolutely respect it though! I'm trying to find an easy way to share the audio file I have demonstrating the issue but at a loss (I'm not into the whole youtube thing) :p

I think ultimately like I said, I'll upsell to a 4000 series card when they launch.

gone through 2 3080FE replaced first due to high pitch coil whine both cards the fans same with noise nothing that sticks out or scratchy noise you mention , I got mine replaced within 1 week from the bolton place ? did you contact them or nvidia ? I contacted the bolton place

Honestly, it's the sort of thing you have to be very pedantic to notice because it's quiet. In the end I filtered the signal to reproduce the noise. I went direct with Nvidia this time though I have RMA'd a 3070 FE with the Bolton place for the same exact issue. So ultimately, I have a sample size of N=4 FE cards and they all produce this sound so I've come to the conclusion it's a design flaw; perhaps it's the sound of the air passing through the metal fins of the card /shrug

On my 3060Ti FE can hardly hear any fan noise very silent card in ultra quiet system, it's the first FE card I've owned.
Could be different on a high end 3080 FE would need more cooling.

Sending off to Honk Kong suck's for RMA, getting brand new card back is great though.

It's been present on 2x 3070 FE and 2x 3080 FE cards I've had access to so perhaps it's not present on the 3060 Ti. I definitely appreciate getting a brand new card.

Either way, any suggestions regarding what to do with my old 3080 FE box and accessories? :P

Sell the box and extra's on ebay probably get £100 lol.
Your hearing might be more sensitive to certain frequencies, have tablet power adapter that gives off a high pitch whine that really gets on my nerves.

Just notice I typed Honk Kong, not Hong Kong duh.....

My rig now pulls 550w while gaming since installing my 3090 :D. It works out that 6 hours gaming costs about a quid...... Maybe I should look at undervolting it

Very impressive results!

Not sure that could be replicated on any card which does not have a seperate 'memory modules' head-sink / bracket like the TUF in the video does.

Doing this on a FE card would be impossible without cutting the cooler to allow for the copper shims.

A link would have been nice.

Its nothing new though a post on reddit reveals someone did this last year although the above design is a more eloquent solution.

https://www.reddit.com/r/EtherMining/comments/o82v5p/using_copper_shims_in_rtx_3080_thermal_mod/

It was direct from the online shop and from past posting thermal pads and paste which got removed so wasn't sure I could link here you go

Also different cards need different thickness , this is for FE also being pre cut less worry about shorting the board, probably paying extra for the privilege haven't looked into it myself pretty happy with the gelid pads :)

Yeah a precut design was my first thought, had never thought about swapping the pads out for copper when I did my pad swap, clearly there's room for better temps out there..

That is a really nice solution, think I will be doing this when GPU availability becomes better. I've held off changing thermal pads as I dont want to accidently break my card without being able to get a replacement.

Would be really annoyed at myself if I broke my card modding it when it's not actually broken but feel lower temps can only help with extending lifespan.

Its not, I'm pretty sure you could buy the appropriate thickness of copper and with a small amount of skill, do it yourself..

Having replaced pads with normal thermal pads wasn't really that difficult only part was the ribbon cables and being extra careful

Just starting to look into the copper you don't want them moved out of place they can short out the board connections would 100% use tape around each vram chip
