39 Bodies found in Lorry in Essex

I am still baffled how we can have a port that handles goods traffic that has no border staff

I know you cant man every tiny port...but not every tiny port has a goods terminal with lorries landing

how can you create and enforce a border policy if you are not looking at all the ports that receive goods traffic.

Why the **** do you think any government would actually enforce anything (certainly with the way our system works)? Lol, how would they keep loopholes open if they did their job, this is... functioning as desired.

Because the wagons/containers should be customs sealed when they leave their origin.

And border checks require a lot of infrastructure and personnel, which cost a lot of money, something the Govt haven't been willing to spend on for a long time.

so what we are saying is the Tories talk a good game but have not come up with the people or infrastructure to enforce any of it...its all hot air

Not entirely accurate. The ports are legally responsible for ensuring customs and border compliance. Again they should be checking for signs of non compliance or tampering and quarantining any suspect cargo. At this point they should inform the relevant authority.

Ahh, fair enough. I was conflating border controls on the movement of people with movement of goods, my mistake.

I may be totally off base, but *something* makes me wonder if the "travelling community" in Ireland, with a known recent penchant for less than politely asking people to work for little or no pay, has some involvement in this?

Someone is seriously going to get in a lot of trouble over this.

They will give them the toughest sentence just to deter traffickers in the future.

You mean the driver who hasn’t been charged with anything and is innocent until proven guilty?
Quite.

Looking iffy for him at the moment tbh but a lot seem to have come to a conclusion regardless.

looks like the poor sods suffocated from what’s been found on phones inside the reefer trailer....

The 26-year-old was identified on Twitter by Human Rights Space coordinator Hoa Nghiem, who says she sent a series of final messages from the container as she died.

According to Ms Nghiem, she said: "I'm sorry Mom. My path to abroad doesn't succeed. Mom, I love you so much! I'm dying bcoz I can't breath...I'm from Nghen, Can Loc, Ha Tinh, Vietnam... I am sorry, Mom."
Grim.

I still fail to understand why the media still insist on calling it a container when it plainly isn’t, perhaps it helps conjure a more scary minds eye image ? - because of course the fact 39 have died needs further embellishment

Only when the media go all out on a story about something you know a lot about do you fully appreciate just how much of reporting is factually lacking crap.

I mean... it contains things? There's hardly any distinction between a trailer and a container.

At least they weren't alone I guess...
