Yeah there was already some mention in the press re: Bulgaria and Irish Republican gangs.
Thanks to the press, and trial by social media, he is the 'public' face of the tragedy, and will pay the price accordingly.
I haven't been following the story very closely. But I noticed a couple of days ago it was all over the media that the bodies found were all Chinese, even asking the Chinese embassy to get involved. Now the media are saying they are Vietnamise i.e from Vietnam. Seems like the media are jumping on every bit of information and broadcasting it without checking.
I'd actually wondered if he even knew they were in the back of his truck given they apparently died of lack of air or cold. Don't know if that's been confirmed yet?
Presumably if you were smuggling people intentionally you'd make sure they were ok in terms of oxygen/temperature?

Wouldn't be much news, they have to release stuff as they are told it. Sometimes that information will be accurate, other times it won't.
That's the media for you, i guess Chinese look the same as Vietnamese so easy mistake to make?

I'd guess there was a clear indicator such as identity cards or passports (both likely to be fake)

There's doubtless a balance that needs to be struck, I'm not sure where that balance is.
Chinese people don't really look anything like Vietnamese people, so I'd say that's unlikely.

Probably because they looked Chinese i.e. had slanted eyes/epicanthic fold etc.. and had Chinese documents.
I mean I guess if they were say black Africans with Chinese documents then the authorities could be like:
But they weren't , they were quite plausibly Chinese thus the Police contacted the Chinese Embassy and the media has reported that initial line of enquiry... now it turns out several (or perhaps even all) may be Vietnamese.
