4080 & 4090 Coil Whine Thread

Wtih a p600s I don't hear the coil whine unless I open the glass panel and put my ear near the card. case under desk though.

how loud is your whine? on my suprim x with the fans spinning at their lowest RPM it's hard to hear anything
Lucky you. When idle mine is silent as soon as I launch a game the bees are let loose

Not the worst but it's there. Here my case is open, it's less noticeable when closed, also i don't hear it if I'm playing a game. Also don't hear it when I ramp up fans but then I hear fans.

It bothers me more that it's there than I can hear it, but still annoying. First world problems i guess.

totes cause i can barely hear anything other than maybe a slight hum

Well I got rid of 80% of the sound by undervolting it. It's so silent that i have to try really hard to hear it, and i have to put my ear against the mesh. Its a clumsy undervolt and I'm not sure how stable it will be after hours and hours. But performance is the same, it uses less electricity and i barely hear coil whine so I'll take that for now.

I'll have to quote myself on this..

Yes, the coil whine is barely there, but my ocd is kicking in, i paid 2.5k for a gpu... It should not be there at all! I have 5 days left to return it and my only option is the Gigabyte gaming OC. Should I try it? Or stick with the Asus TUF? What would you guys do?

If you are the guy from that Discord group you already know the answer!

I would and did return mine. It's too much money to have a lesser experience. Sounds like we either need to go Zotec, Inno3D or Pallit.

I'm waiting for Thursday now though just to see what AMD have.

I don't even have discord so no I'm not. But the answer is yes to return it?
Sorry must be a different Raiden. Didn’t think there would be two of you (Raidens) willing to shell £2.5K out on a 4090 when you can get AIB 4090s for over £500+ less. More money than sense I guess. Yes, return it. Save yourself some coin and buy a cheaper version for the same performance and maybe less coil whine.

I think he means 2.5k Euros as he's from Belgium .. but still a lot of coin even in Euros...

Yeah you're right. Sorry, i know this is an English UK forum. The cheapest card here is 2300 thhe zotac or the pny, the gigabyte is 2400, my TUF was 2500. I dont know how that translates into pounds. But either way its a lot of money for me.

4090FE arrived today to replace the 3090FE. Having just installed it and given it a few benchmarks I've not heard any coil whine, even the 3090 had a slight whine at high fps but this 4090FE is very quiet. I've only tested at stock speeds, so no clocks higher than 2800Mhz.

Which benchmarks? Mine just arrived today and it's almost the same as my TUF 4090 which I've had. MSI kombustor and Heaven is noticable with open case on the desk.

Overwatch 2 was silent, and MW2 a slight buzz.

I have in the last two weeks tried 5 3070's, one 2080S, one 3090 and a TUF 4090. They all have coil whine, but the 3070, 2080 and 3090 are pretty quiet but that's perhaps because of usage over the years. My two 4090s made the most sound.

At this point you're not convincing me there whine less cards. I'm sure it settles in though. I got lucky and returned my Asus TUF and got an FE for 500 eur less. I'm keeping it for sure.
