Which benchmarks? Mine just arrived today and it's almost the same as my TUF 4090 which I've had. MSI kombustor and Heaven is noticable with open case on the desk.
I've only had it installed and running since last evening, but I tried 3DMark, port royal, and Timespy Extreme a few times. Also Cyberpunk 2077 and then different variations/settings of Unigine Superposition. Some at 1080 with massive high fps, and then 4k maxed out only managing 40+fps at full load. In all cases the GPU ran at 100% at 1.050v and managed it without any noticeable whine. The 4090FE is a fair bit quieter than my 3090FE.
I do have it running from a 1500W bequiet Dark Power Pro 12, from different rails if that's any help.
I'm super delighted with the 4090FE, quiet, cool, and fast
not sure if its the mic, but to me that doesn't sound horrendous. I don't think ive ever owned a card that doesn't have coil whine and believe those who say they have none are just not hearing it there is only one way to remove it completely and that is to remove the thermal pads on the backplate covering the VRMs. My Strix 3090 had it bad. It would change its whine pitch based on what was being displayed on the screen which was a huge distraction. My TUF 4090 has it to a lesser extent, but at least is constant and even light fan noise covers it. With the Strix 3090 since I was putting a Waterblock on it I removed the back plate and put it through heavy benchmarking and the back of the VRMs were still cool to touch so removed the thermal pads and the whine went completely. Here's my replacement on Uncharted 4 capped at 120fps, native 4k.

Yeah that sounds like my TUF did on it's worst. Is this the worst example? It's manageable imho, but perhaps a new sound dampening case if you have money to spare. Here's my replacement on Uncharted 4 capped at 120fps, native 4k.

when I get my Waterblock for the 4090 ill do a video with and without the back plate to illustrate. What?
maybe because they cant, all i can hear is a slight buzz thats only really noticable when he jams the phone up its arseThat is really bad coil whine. I'm surprised people are saying they can't hear it.

So I got the MSI Suprim none x version yesterday and it sounds like this most of the time:
MSI Suprim 4090 coil whine

This is even with the case on. Disappointed to say the least. This is my first build in nearly 15 years so unsure if this level of wine is to be expected.
Is that while just sitting at idle or playing a game ?
That would drive me nuts.
Yeah I had a suprim x and it was unbearable while playing games. I've tried 3 different cards now and settled on the inno3d which I'd by far the quietest in regards to coil whine... seems its a part of the 4090It's mainly when playing games, The new A Plagues Tale is particularly bad.
Annoyingly it also does it to a lesser degree when using Google maps which is particularly frustrating.
When I watched that earlier I couldn't help but think it would be the ideal card for you the crazy thing is you will probably need to pay near on £2000 to have the privilege of it sounding like that and performing considerably worse than a 4090Seems like we may need to update the title to include 4080's, DeBauers 4080 Strix has bad coil whine. Judging by the comments below it, it hasnt been smooth sailing for loads of people.
Terrible Coil Whine on the new RTX 4080 Strix

Mine does it but unless your comp is on your desk I doubt many people would notice it.Seems MSI are particularly bad this gen. I wouldn't put up with it.
