40th Anniversary Intel - Core i7-8086K - 5.0GHz+

I'm debating whether to order one of these or a Ryzen 2700X. Decisions, decisions. The fact that the mobo I want for a Ryzen doesn't seem to be available anywhere at sensible money might help sway that, mind.
Just ordered a 2700X, Crosshair VII and some 8 Pack Team Group Memory to have a play. Seemed reasonably priced compared to my 8700K setup. It’s ages since I played with an AMD chip.

That is my thinking . nearly orderd the 8086 yesterday. but you get so much more for your money with 2700x set up you have gone for.

Not impressed at all with that. Nothing to say the other cores will be stable at 5 GHz. I would shoot for a binned OcUK chip if you wanted more of a guaranteed clock.

Exactly nothing guaranteed for all six cores except “As of 6/08/18, the top 86% of tested 8700Ks were able to hit 5.0GHz or greater.”

So I'm very new to overclocking any of the newer chips and so far I have got it working fairly well.

My board is StriX Z370-H and memory 8pack team 4000mhz.

So far I have set all cores to 50 and ai tweaker to manual.
Vcore 1.3v manual and LLC at 6
AVX offset is 0
agent voltage 1.1v
VID (think its that to 1.1v
Memory at 3200mhz 31-14-14-14

ive not really messed with anything else.

So far it's done 5ghz (all cores) 1.280V (vdroop) for about 30 mins prime95 AVX and temps go no more than 55c on my custom water loop.

With 5ghz being stock on the 8086k I was hoping to see overclocks of around 5.3ghz to 5.5ghz

Did you have a look at what all the cores clocked to before overclocking it ?

That’s not going to happen unless Intel have put some thing special between the core and the lid. From what I have read so far it’s the same compound so you will hit the same heat problems.

Just got a 8700k today, tried it at 5Ghz on all cores at 1.35 volts. All seems good so far, stress tests max temps are in the low 70’s and gaming in the 40’s. Might try for more before I start to try and dial the voltage down.

I have had 5 8700ks
1st one L729C 5.0Ghz 1.248v passed Cinebench R15. 5.2Ghz with 4.9Ghz cache 1.41v passed 2hrs realbench.
2nd one L733 5.0Ghz 1.29v passed Cinebench R15. Now running daily at 5.0Ghz 1.33v.
3rd one L733 5.0Ghz 1.31v passed Cinebench R15. Ditched.
4th and 5th L741 5.0hz 1.30v~1.34v passed Cinebench R15. Ditched both.

From my perspective pre-binned 4.9Ghz-5.1Ghz at 1.4v are pretty trash if not average cpus.

Passed cb15 well i can pass cb15 at 4350 all core zen+. Its wortless. Realbench 1 hour+ on other hand is a proper test.

So from 5 cpus u tested only 1??

Btw most buy binned ro have delided cpu with warranty afaik. With liquid metal extra 100mv is no problem :)

Volts dont degrade cpus as much as heat foes. [email protected] will live longer than [email protected]

if a cpu doesnt pass cb15 with less than 1.25v at 5Ghz I don't bother doing anything other tests.
