5090 Price

I paid £1139 for my 4080FE in 2023, that’s about my limit for a graphics card to be honest.

As much as I would like to upgrade to a 5080, the current suggested prices are mental!

I think a 4090 will be my next upgrade, given that I only game at 1440p.

I just can't nor will ever get my head around £1k for a GPU, especially when I'm still rocking along quite happily with my (second hand) 1080ti...

Thankfully the majority of games I play are relatively old and thus no issue for my current setup, why bother upgrading?
Same using a 1080 FE work cast off. Still playing more older games and have no real desire to play golden circle tbh.

The resale value of a 4080 FE is pretty decent, which should offset a good chunk of the cost. I'm going to sell my FE and upgrade to a 5080.

It does feel like the rumours are anchoring expectations so that people will be happy to be gouged at an 'unreasonable' but slightly lower price than the rumours so far..

The more you buy, the more you save...

I dont believe some of these rumours at all, the pricing seems too ridiculous. 1600 for a 5080 and 2500 for a 5090? Surely not.

I wouldn't believe them ;)

Gibbo already posted these cards are going be in huge demand and has limited OCUK sales to the UK only

So it either very low stock levels or these GPU's are going be far cheaper then people thinking or saying or a bit of both

People will happily pay extreme amounts for GPUs, we already know that. They will sell like hot-cakes because they are the new performance champion.
Price is going to be lower than the rumours, but way higher than what's reasonable. It's as mentioned, put out exorbitant rumoured prices, and people will think they are getting a good deal when the cards launch at "just" high prices.

The internet has exploded with silly money amounts for these new cards. A mate of money just paid £1750 for a new 4090 so £2500 for a 5090 might be right.

The 5080 though even if a grand less at £1500 would be expensive

tbf he says that for every release!

Gaming is more popular than it's ever been. Anyone else worried that high end gaming is becoming something only the ultra wealthy will be able to genuinely afford?

High end pc gaming has always been an expensive hobby, but still a sustainable one for those with a decent income. But with the pricing rumours of these new cards I'm starting to think things are shifting and ultra high end will ultimately be reserved for genuinely rich folk and stupid people.

well to build a high end ULTRA gaming pc, including monitor and peripherals, is now going to set you back somewhere between £5000-£8000 depending on how much you splash. Even mid range pc is going to cost you somewhere between £2000-£3000. I think consoles and handhelds are going to take over the market eventually. I would rather take that £8000 and spend £600 on a console and take that £7400 and do something else more productive, that's just me personally and nothing against anyone who wants to splash on their PC but after 2 years the system barely worth more than a quarter of its original price, it depreciates so rapidly I just don't see the point.

Just look at the steam survey of graphics card, most people own 4060 downwards and frankly I don't see why anyone would bother with PC for gaming in such brackets, they should just buy a console for gaming and saves themselves lots of headaches. Before PC games used to be cheap compared to consoles now there is not much difference for AAA titles. Visually most of the games are console ports and look very similar to their PC counterparts.

I played with PS5 for few years and tbh there was not much difference, is the PC experience better, yeah of course, is it night and day better NO. My experience with console was very enjoyable and comparable to PC.

Still the PC has benefits, look at the PC versus console thread. Just because a threadripper exists doesn't mean you have to buy it.

My CPU cost £165. And I won't be spending £2000 on a GPU that is insane.

Completely agree on the mid range pc concept. Apart from mods I just don't see the point in not just using a console. For me it's either higher end pc or console, no in-between.

The biggest problem for me is there just no AAA games anymore to make me want to spend out a huge amount of money on buying a 5090

I'd say this gen will be £1300 for 5080 and £1900 for 5090 (FE prices; A/M prices will be +5 to +50% more) :) I hope it's cheaper, but I think that Nvidia just see's lots of people are happy to pay more to scalpers due to FOMO and then charge more the generation after.

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole GPU market implodes in the next decade. Everyone has a breaking point with pricing; some have already broke where they won't pay £1000+ for a high-end GPU, so they will likely move to mid-tier (£400 - £700 range), move to consoles, use cloud gaming, or skip more generations before upgrading. More people will break this gen when it's £1300+ for a high-end 5-series. There was some paper napkin math done on reddit not long ago to highlight the costs of a service like GFN over time in comparison to a high-end PC and a PS5 which was quite interesting (screenshot here if you're interested and can't reach reddit).
