Man with his hands on his head in shock, must be correct then.
I did not even have to click the video but knew what clickbait Youtuber it was from your description and the video title as my browser part blocks Youtube embeds by default.
It just makes me scared that Nvidia are briefing retail partners about 5080/5090s been for professionals only, when they ask about high prices. Also with how much prices went up Gen on Gen previously and the AI demand. In short it's believable :(
I think they should completely lean into this and just say it for professionals only and watch the outrage that follows.

Saw that too, maybe that's why the 70Ti is pretty close to the 80 this time around (shaders-wise) to price it anywhere near a grand with the others way over.

I do think it's Nvidia saying they don't really care about gamers anymore apart from the 1%. Which does make sense when their assets can be deployed elsewhere for so much more money.

We shall see, maybe there pricing will surprise everyone, however unlikely it seems at this point.

Yeah, the xx70ti series seems designed to upsell folk who would have historically bought the best price / performance xx70/xx60 card and bump up the price of the xx80 even higher!

Feels deliberate on Nvidias part to make the regular xx70 seem like a worse option.

Tbh, the X070 is pretty much the new X060 in terms of where it fits into the performance bracket but with a much heftier price tag.

The current 4060 should have been the 4050.

I remember buying a 6800GT in 2004 for roughly £300, about £600 in today's money if my maths is right.

The 6800GT was an epic card in its time and well worth the outlay.

So, I'd like to think £600 would buy me something half decent, except I doubt it would...

The GPU market has gone insane, and completely put me off buying new ever again.

It's used (as it has been for a very long time) for me as my upgrade route, I won't be taken for a ride, and I doubt I'm alone in this thinking.

Yeah I was set on grabbing a 5080 but if it's £1200+ I'm seriously considering just picking up a 4080 Super or a 4090 in the 2nd hand market.

Shoulda bought a 6800 vanilla for $225 and unmasked to a 6800 GT ;)

Prices really have become utterly ridiculous. With this new gen, we're actually very likely dealing with an inverted price/performance curve, not just as a temporary blip due to external influences, but as the status quo. Putting it all together, these rumored prices have gone well passed the mark for other "cool hobby stuff" I can buy for the price.

^Quite right. We are getting into half decent car or decent motorbike territory now at £2.5k!! I know which I would rather spend the money on and it doesn't go in a pc.

A pair of socks?

They should price the 5090 at £3000. As logic goes completely out the window for people buying these sort of cards anyway.

It's consumerism reaching Numptyland levels at that point.

This is my current thinking too as I think the 5090 will be ridiculously priced and the 5080 will be under specced. Problem is 4090's will be in high demand as I'm sure there are plenty of others ready to upgrade but thinking the same so basically we're screwed.
