580 GTX Price is up....

speaking purely from experience here:

- about 6 year or so ago built a computer with Nvidia card. Worked first time no problems encountered
- 5 years ago upgraded to SLI. worked first time no problems
- 3 years ago upgraded from SLI to better Nvidia card. worked no problem first time
- 1/2 year ago upgraded from nvidia to 5870 ATI. all i have had is problems. Driver issues, lag in games, miscellaneous issues that have driven me crazy!!!

Result? I'm moving back to Nvidia as soon as the next gen card comes out.

(just from personal experience, i'm sure a lot of people have not experienced these issues)

Your not very good with PC's then?

Performance/Price > Brand

You do have to consider support as well, but that is opening a can of worms.

But generally speaking agree with Voltage :-) I couldn't care less. And to be completely honest, if a card is say 10% slower for the same price I still wouldn't worry too much about it even if I had made the 'wrong' choice.

And some people move the other way for the same reasons, it's swings and roundabouts really. I had some mad issues with my 7800GT until I had to change motherboards and suddenly it worked like a dream. (should say that the old mobo worked fine with other GFX cards too, others who had the same mobo/ GFX were fine.... god knows what was going on)
You have your reason and no one can argue with that.

My mate just informed me that his 'cost' to get a GTX580 in is ~£330.

That's shop cost direct from the supplier, so need to add VAT + shop markup.

So looking at least £400 retail price.

If they are real, big disappointment. Those heaven benchmarks are awful. My gtx470's in SLI own it big style and probably cost £100 less.

Hence ATI dual core card will kill it.
