580 GTX Price is up....

That's impossible, Forum Experts say it will be over £500. Haven't you heard?

if thats a dig at me then i suggest you go re-read my posts.

FYi, that's £376 straight converted, tell me the last time uk and us cards have sold at a 1:1 conversion rate. not once.

You should know by now things aren't that simple. You should expect it to be at the very least £420 based on the US prices... If things get bumped up similarly to our monitor prices over here at least.

I do know, nothing wrong with pointing out a US price, only fools would assume we'd get the same card for £376 at launch :)

Still banging that drum from yesterday i see.

Yep, people are still claiming it won't be worth the price. Obviously they deep analysis of pricing is based on scientific methods. They are vastly superior to me in predicting future.

I don't really know what you posted in this thread (meaning I read it through but can't remember who posted what) but there are some individuals who should be proud of their super-powers.

FYI, some cards were sold cheaper than straight dollar:pound conversion in the UK recently. I'm talking GeForce GTX470 and others not so long ago. I do this kind of research quite regularly and there are times when we're ahead of the game (excluding VAT that is).

It's very likely that the card will be sold for below £400 at launch, depending on availability. And yet people would bash me for pointing out their ignorance.

well there were some people telling us that this British rip off tax doesn't actually exist, just before the pricing for the 6870 was announced, but i expect they will keep quite now that its Nvidia turn to launch a card.

There are some people who know that both supply and demand are different in the UK meaning that suppliers are willing to sell less products at higher prices rather than the other way around. There are also external factors that influence the mark-up. It will normalise soon enough for people to stop complaining.

There are some people who think that 2.1% increase in VAT will kill their finances as well

Obviously, the only price we are interested in is one inclusive of VAT. it's no good to 99% of us to go comparing ex.vat prices and considering that, we are usually vastly more expensive. In fact, its not far off $1:£1 as far as new gpu releases go.

We're comparing US prices excluding VAT with UK prices excluding VAT, right? Otherwise it just doesn't make any sense and calling it a rip-off is like saying having government to spend public money is a rip-off.

It's not $1:£1 but rather $1.38:£1 which isn't that bad really but certainly not as good as $2:£1 conversion rate with VAT influence of 15% (would be $1.74:£1). That has nothing to do with retailers pricing though.

Just realised you mentioned launch pricing, that is mainly due to availability which is why we have one-off deals from certain retailers when new electronics launch.

Launch price is what we have all been discussing not what the price will eventually be. Thats why all the people have been high with there estimates.

They've been way too high and haven't put a thought into it IMO which is why I suspect some have taken an opportunity to do a little bashing of Nvidia. We all love flame wars that take place in this particular Forum.

nvidia bashing lol.

Go on then, with reasoning and explanation, tell us what you think the price of the cards will be , taking in to consideration the correlation of US and UK pricing of both current and previous releases and any price gouging that has occurred.

I dont know about you but i can't stand it. But just about the only thing that frustrates me more is people playing the fanboy bashing wars card. tripe.
