580 GTX Price is up....

I can see it debuting at around £500+, the radeon 5970 came in at around £530 and had an rrp of $599.

looking at the currant prices of the other cards by ASUSTEK they are generally £20 give or take a few quid dearer than the cheapest card for each type.

so taking the $599 us figure, at todays exchange rate that gives us £372.64 add the VAT @17.5% and you get a price of £437.85
so with ASUSTEK not being the cheapest i can see a £399 launch price for a cheaper brand.

heres hoping...:D

i came to a similar conclusion

599.00 US dollars = 374.66 British pounds sterling + gotta add 17.5 VAT (~£65) = ~£440 and potential early addopters fee = £4??.99 :(

but now im thinking dont we pay vat AND duty on US prices?? maybe somone with knowledge of importing goods can clarify

Anti-Nvidia cult is getting more annoying than Nvidia fanboys recently. Loads of bull spread over the thread making it another pointless read.

As Raven pointed out (and I don't tend to agree with this lad), current conversion is 4799 yuan = £445. How the hell some of you are making up those ridiculous numbers is beyond my imagination.

Nvidia is known for charging more for similarly performing products, Radeon 5970 sells for £400 and over, why would it be surprising to see a potentially the best performing card on the market priced at £429 or so? If the quoted performance increase is to be trusted, 15-20% would get it very close to performance of the best card from the competitor that is has a dual-gpu on board. Furthermore, it would probably be even faster which would leave it as the best card in the world. To no surprise that it would be stack against itself?

The price will mostly likely drop as soon as the 6970 is widely available anyway.

EDIT: afaik VAT in China works out at 17% for electronics so would be almost spot on with these prices.

Did you factor in how rare these cards are likely to be? The retailers know there will be people willing to pay a lot more for something thats not gonna be around in large numbers.

A quote from semiaccurate.

"The other bit is we hear that allocation is quite low, with many countries not getting 10 cards for all the vendors combined. The US and some heavily watched etailers will likely get three digits of cards when production starts at the end of the year."

If this is true at launch these cards may be as rare as the ares and mars gpu's.

thats eye watering, although im sure ati will price their 6970 at the same price, my wallets going to hurt this christmas... :S

Why would AMD price the 6970 anywhere near that high? It's the replacement for the 5870 and will be around that price point, maybe £350 max. Remember AMD still have the 6990 to launch this year too.

Tell me, how rare these cards will be? Does it matter what price they launch at anyway? 99% of people will buy them when they're available and for the price that will be current then.

lol he thinks hes going to get Chinese RRP in UK...

I lol when I read your posts and that's not because you're positively funny. Prices will depend on the availability but it's simple enough to verify if they are possible by comparing different products from Asus website and retail prices in the UK.

and import duty?? dont we have to pay this as well? im unsure, trying to find out atm

What do you need the import duty for? China refunds VAT partially if you import but that's irrelevant in this case.

I would be surprised if 6970 retails at more than £320. It will most likely be £309 or so when the cards are widely available.

If you read around and read my post you would know how rare i think these cards will be. The quote from semi accurate says some countries may only get 10 cards. If they can only give 10 cards to certain countries sounds like they will be lucky to have 1000 cards world wide on launch. There are also other sites saying its a paper launch. There are no sites around saying there will be good numbers at launch. Thats why i say £500+ at launch could be a possibiliy as major price gouging will go on. The price will obviously settle when numbers start coming through.

If it is $599 then the most likely price will be got by comparing the 480, which was $499, at launch.

At launch the 480 was £430 - £460. Therefore IF 580 is $599 it's going to be knocking on, or even surpassing, £500

Ok, it's possible the availability of these cards will be very low, somehow limited to test samples only. It would still make sense for Nvidia to launch them before 6970 comes out. This means nothing to end consumer though, nobody ever said that GTX580 will be available to grab on 9th Nov 2010. If it's not available then the only price you can speculate about in the UK is its pre-order price. Using Chinese RRP makes sense though as that is a significantly larger market than the UK and should reflect both UK and US pricing.

Pricing will matter only when the cards are available and speculating that they will retail at £500 is stupid. Not that it wouldn't be possible but it isn't based on any reasonable info or assumptions.
