580 GTX Price is up....

Ok, it's possible the availability of these cards will be very low, somehow limited to test samples only. It would still make sense for Nvidia to launch them before 6970 comes out. This means nothing to end consumer though

Means a lot to me, it means the yields are very low and that they can't manufacture a reliable enough batch for me to spend that much money on (especially knowing you won't be able to rma it because no replacement will be available).

Just me sticking my oar in

no, no you cant. ASUS OC edition you cant...

PNY from a micky mouse retailer yes maybe...

Any Asus 6870 is an "OC" version. It's overclocked by the whole 13 or 15MHz.

And this is a MID RANGE CARD THATS BEEN OUT FOR nearly 2 weeks.

Whats it going to be like for a SUPERCARD with poor yealds and limited numbers....facepalm indeed.

Precisely, Asus HD6870 is a mid range card with huge demand at this price point. It is available every other week if you order it though. GTX580 is fit for a totally different market.

Cut my post in half and claim wisdom. There's a difference between shipping a few hundred cards worldwide to stop people from saving up for supposedly superior (to GTX480) HD6970 and having troubles with production.

Anti-Nvidia cult is getting more annoying than Nvidia fanboys recently. Loads of bull spread over the thread making it another pointless read.

As Raven pointed out (and I don't tend to agree with this lad), current conversion is 4799 yuan = £445.

£445 + price gouge, not that far off the wrong side of £500.

ouchy ?

lol Krugga

Whats so difficult to understand?
Were comparing RRP prices of "ASUS cards" in China to "ASUS card" prices here in UK.

Simple yen conversion dont cut it.

I'll believe when I see it. There's nothing that would suggest that now though.

Exactly you muppet, it doesn't take much to figure out that Asus 6870 doesn't retail at £220 unless you want it to. It's on pre-order in most if not all places but can be had for much lower. It's not my problem that you have troubles finding it.

I'll probably get flamed as an ATI fan boy for saying this but the whole 580 release seems a panic move by Nvidia for a card thats simply not yet ready.
I could be wrong and hope I am but if the rumours of the limited availability and pricing are true (they probably aren't but lets just go with it because time will tell) then it is surely a panic release to prove that they aren;t being left behind.

And to anybody thats about to shoot me down as an ATI fan boy all I can say is that the GTX260 was by far the best graphics card I ever bought from either camp so :p

other than the fact that every other top release form both sides has been gouged to hell and back, you mean?

RRP is all well and good, but its the price at the retailer that counts. we'll have to wait and see :)

Believe what you want, if the rumours are true, GTX580 doesn't cost much more than 480 to produce meaning that they can be competitive price-wise. The cards probably won't be widely available till HD6970 is released anyway but the reviews will be a few weeks old for GTX580 and will help potential clients decide. I can see RRP being lower than you expect because it makes sense in this business world. One will be proven wrong soon anyway.

can be != will be. it'll be more than a straight currency conversion suggests and if the op is right (he did link to the asus website which does list the 580 in yen...*it would seem*) then it'll be near £500.

lets put a signature bet on this then? Prices here from OCUK. You say your price I say mine. Loser has to put a signature the other guy chooses? Hows that sound muppet?

There is also a huge difference between shipping a card that you cannot mass produce reliably and shipping one that you can.

Not sure what you meant regarding cutting you post in half and claiming wisdom though unless we were both trying to make the same point and I didn't spot it (in which case apoligies!).

At that price they can go jump off a building £300 is my limit theres not much point is spending that type of dollar on a 3d card most games you won't tell the differance lol..

Someone from Ocuk has alread posted today that they will have plenty, the rough figures were 30*5 or 30*1. Not sure which way round they meant it
