We are on the eve of NVIDIA GeForce GTX launched its next 580 and as with any launch related, MSI has prepared its own reference design, identified as N580GTX-M2D15D5D.La GeForce GTX 580 has been mentioned as the chip will be equipped with 512 GF110 CUDA cores and 40nm manufactured, will offer a throughput of up to 22.9% in 3DMark Vantage Performance mode, and up 32.4% in Xtreme mode over its predecessor, the GTX 480

A lot of people seem to be excited by this launch i just can't figure out why. Nvidia top end launches tend to be exciting because they usually bring some kind of unknown and try to push the boundaries but for this launch all they have is a card that should have been released last novemeber if launch dates were correct. There are a few modifications obviously but there does not seem to be any unknown x-factor elements to the gtx580. All in all if rumours are true a gtx480 at 770core is only in the region of 10 percent slower.

All facts considered a new cooler, 10% faster clock per clock than a gtx480 and i have a sneaky suspision from a slide i seen this card may run more than 2 screens per card thats about as good as it gets for the gtx580 not much to look forward to. I hope i am proved wrong though.

I am still looking forward to the reviews but just not as much as usual because i kind of know whats coming.

Was hoping they would add mini displayport. One of the things with the Dell 3008 LCD is it wont display HDCP content above 1920x1200 using dual link DVI. So you have to use the hdmi connection which is limited to 1920x1080, and settle for massive borders. No such problem with ati as it comes with a display port connection, and when hooked up to the displayport on the Dell, BD movies will scale nicely to 2560x1600. An advantage I've never seen written about before.

This is definately where nvidia needs work along with there audio support which they addressed in the gtx460. I have a feeling nv might have tried to catch up with eyefinity technology which may be another reason for the gtx580 name. If they don't change much then the 5 series name is pretty much in place because amd are moving to the 6 series with a new architecture. This way nv don't look like they are old hat.
