580 GTX Price is up....

yes but the 470 sli deal is useless if:-

1 - The game/s you play dont use SLI
2 - You dont have the psu or case for SLI

both of those apply to me, i need a single card, whatever that is

£800 580 SLI or 470 SLI £330, overclock the 470's and the difference in performance will be unnoticeable gaming IMO.

Raven is right, common sense goes right out the window when there is a new graphics card release. As I said in an earlier post the gpu makers dupe you all into buying the latest and greatest, even if you dont need them. Oh no wait a minute Raven what did you pay for that 480 again. LOL:D

This. I have already posted some of my gtx470 results on here and I can't see a gtx580 coming even close. Even my heaven benchmark is a good 35%+ faster and that is one of the area where the gtx580 has the biggest gains. My vantage score is 20% faster as well.

All that for £300 if you sell your mafia 2 vouchers which is what I did.;)

gtx470 SLI is definitely the bang for buck choice at the moment and in games supporting SLI (are there any now which don't?) and overclocked, there is nothing out to touch them for anywhere near the money. The only thing faster is two gtx580 for £800

I can't see the need for me to upgrade at all except for epeen but my wallet is happier if I don't.

Getting £260 for my two gtx470s max and putting another £540 to it does not make sense to me.

Selling my two cards and spending another £140 to have a slower system makes no sense either.

You are forgetting a GTX 580 takes up one PCIex slot.

Think of people with H series motherboards.

Also a GTX580 uses less power than two 470's.

Still I think I will see what caymen or antilles is like before I put anything down on a 580. Might change my mind though.

Well if were going to get "fermi done right" i think in honour of the occasion rjkoneill should be made to model the gpu in a mankini  :D

Hello :)

Its interesting to see that a few pople are talking about upgrading their 480s already!

Is there realy any point? Why not wait 6 months and drop another 480 in if you realy need more performance.

My veiw is that a 480SLI set up will last you years - especially if your using a single monitor.

I think Nvidia knows this and thats why they're pushing multi-monitor setups.

The only reason I can think of that would make me upgrade from 480 SLI in the future is if I ever go down the road of 3 x 30inch monitors, or if theres another new version of dirext X.
