580 GTX Price is up....

If people started to think logically they would already have figured out that both GTX580 and HD6970 are rumoured to be around 15-20% faster than GTX480. I don't really want to speculate which will wear the performance crown but if my assumptions are correct, HD6870 will cost no more than £320. I can't see anyone buying a presumably similarly performing card for almost £200 more.

for this i am wondering, why nvidia will charge so much for their card when in 2 weeks time amd will release 6970 at a cheaper price

15-20% increase over a 480.. with a 30% price increase

nvidia normaly keep there top card around the £350 region yet this will be over £100 more than that, thats without getting all the fancy overclocked and watercooled premium ones

Clearly you haven't heard of the 8800 Ultra, the GTX 280, or even the GTX 480 all of which launched at around the £450 mark. :D

Which i doubt suffered from a terrible exchange rate, which is the main cause of uk high pricing at present. Why keep blaming the companies.

the US doller / UK pound is the same today as it was this time last year (~$1.60=£1.00), before then we wer getting even better rates tbh. in april 2008 it was $2 to the pound, so yeah were not having as good a time as we used to :(

Wasn't the Ultra over $800 list price and the gtx280 $650? It was only cause we were getting $2 to the pound that we got it for £450. It would be more like £600+ with today's exchange rates.

Yep, just checked my previous posts:

List price at launch in US dollars.

x1950xtx $449
8800 GTX $599
8800 Ultra $799
gtx 280 $649
9800 GX2 $599
HD 4870 $299
HD 5870 $379
HD 5970 $599
GTX 480 $499

The gtx480 has been Nvidia's cheapest top card for 10 years. Even the 8800gtx was $599. I can see the gtx580 being $599. According to reports they have only 10% in numbers compared to the 6970 so you can probably sell all of them at that price.

If not drop the price once the ATI cards launch.

£465 or £469 is my selection for next week. Still bad value for money when I got my two gtx470 for £350.

My 5870 thunders through every game i play and you can pick 2nd hand 5870's up for £200 does anybody really need a £480 right now? Games just aren't as demanding as they used to be, it's just a waste of power imo.

Dont usually see much a dif with exchange rates, regardless we seem to pay hefty amounts. When it was $2=£1 why didnt we get these things cheaper than the states? We still ended up with expensive stuff. The exchange is not too bad right now, when it was $2=£1 we were doing VERY well, now things are just more normal. THe best thing to do is to simply not purchase at such silly amounts, but we only need a handful of people out of 60million to not care about the price so they will still sell.

After my last expensive purachse of computer hardware back in April 2008, I realized that software and hardware accelerate so fast, your better of buying say mid range but upgrade every 2-3 years than shelling out for the really expensive stuff.

For instance. DX10 gpu's two years later... redundant with Dx11.

Spend £400 on a 480 or what ever in a years time redundant when dx12 debuts with Windows 8 no doubt.

You better of buying something great but also value for money like a 470 at current prices, then buying agian in approx 2 years at another upper midrange price point.

In saying that, I did a very silly thing. I knew the 6000 series from ATI was only months away. I knew I should wait, but instead I bought a 5870! Not entirely regretting it, becuase the 5870 is great, but I paid £300 for a 2gb 5870 , where as if I had waited forthe 6870 to launch either now I would be waiting to see what the 6970 would bring or I would have purchased a £200 470...

Oh well, we live and we learn I guess.

In my opinion, in terms of gaming a cpu can last 3-4 years before needing an upgrade, where as a gpu lasts for about 2-3 years before you start to think hmm, it would be nice to play that game I really like at decent settings etc...

I will hopfully not make any future upgrades untill 2013 when Windows 8 is out, then Il do the whole mobo, ram, cpu, gpu upgrade.

and all the pictures of a 580gtx iv seen so far...i have one question...WHERE ARE HEATPIPES LIKE IN THE 480GTX :( i loved them, made it look like it could do some damage to your powersupply.

.

holy ***** and my friend picked up a 8800 ultra for £50 yesterday!

They are on the way, lots of them, but overall in the UK there will be very little stock! :)

Also pricing yet to be confirmed, should be well under £500 though :)

But it will obviously be more expensive than a 480 simply because its a damn site faster, its not just a speed bump. ;)

Its not just a speed bump, I mean, really, its 15-20% faster, with 10% higher clocks. Standard "new generation" difference between top end cards is around 70-80%. This card the majority of the performance increase, is from the increased speed.

I consider a speed bump when a manufacturer just just increased clock speeds and fits a better cooler, I.E basically just overclocking the card and maybe making a few PCB changes to handle it.

I can't divulge as to what NVIDIA has done due to NDA, but they've done a lot more than just that. :)
