470 SLI will be faster than a 580 as well as a 6970, that was in response to

but does the 580 do 3d surround solo? I havent been paying attention to graphics cards for months but from what I remember you need an SLI set up for 3d? If the 580 can do it on it's own it might sway me over a 6970 if its faster aswell (at the right price).I've only had a 5870 for six odd months and I have no need to upgrade but still I find it oh so compelling
You only need a single card for 3D (single screen), but you need an SLI setup for triple-monitor gaming, either 2D or 3D. "3D vision surround" refers to a triple-screen 3D setup, so if the 580 can do that solo then it would be a step up from the 4-series (although really, trying to get good performance in 3D with three screens is hard enough on a GTX480 SLI setup, so I doubt that a single card will have too much success).

Yeah got to love massive bars for smallish increments.
Just sold my 480's. One goes tomorrow, the other when the 580's arrive
Had to sell a X-Fi, a Marantz CD6003 cd player, and a Dac too to afford all this.
Thats commitment.

Luckily I did not lose very much on selling on the 480's which is a first for me. Didn't think the easyshuffle would work
I know there is a good chance the 6970 will be quicker but in the short time I've played with these GTX 480's I'm happier with them then I was with the ATI cards and having tried the best each side has to offer, I think I will stay with Nvidia.
