5870/5850 User Benchmarks, Thoughts & Feelings

Crysis warhead XFire 5870s
default core/mem

1920x1200 4xaa16af all maxed enthusiast.
didnt mesure temps as i currently dont have fraps installed.

FPS? Also what temps u getting on CPU and GPUs at load with those 2 beasties sitting on top of each other? Any problems with the second fan being blocked?

Pulling 300W with Furmark, so more like 250w gaming normal situation.

Presume that means u should be able to run 2x 5870s on HX620W?

The fan looks like an intake from the two ports on the end Blowing air through the card and out towards the expansion slot screw end. If that makes sence.

Guy from hardware canucks says this...not sure if hes just guessing.

Must admit this is making me think twice about my 285 gtx. Although I havnt the funds to buy another 300 quid card.

This card just feels solid and expensive? Does that make sense to anyone? Its unlike any ATI card before....It has a sort of Nvidia quality feel to it...Same feeling I had when I bough 8800GTX. Well worth £300.

Over and out

Ati/Amd have really upped their game

It makes complete sense, it's exactly what i feel. It does feel like a solid solid fast card and feels like cash well spent. I think it's definitely the most impressive card i've owned and lord knows i've had my share of gfx cards

Well I've got mine installed and I'm very impressed with how well its performing. But I was wondering what converter do I need to use 3 monitors? As I have 3 montiors (2 VGA, 1 DVI) but there is only 2 DVI ports. So I'm guessing I need a HDMI-DVI/VGA or Display Port-DVI/VGA.

I was wondering how much are these and where can I get them from? :)

Don't worry I think ATi are in talks with monitor manufacturers for an adapter.

I hope they do because the monitors I've seen with DisplayPort are all around the £400 mark. Which is ironic as it costs less than HDMI. Royalty wise.

I know... I've never seen display ports on monitors tbh :P

Why don't adapters work? I'm not sure what the difference is with DisplayPort compared to DVI etc. Was hoping to try it this weekend. I'll have to check to see if my TV has a DisplayPort or not, what about using HDMI? Or does eyefinity need a DisplayPort device to work?

One monitor has to be displayport > displayport from the GFX card. Assuming you'd make that one the middle one. The other two using DVI ports. I don't quite know why it doesn't work but I'll post the wiki link again for displayport.

DisplayPort

Thanks LeJosh!

Here's to hoping ATI sort out something soon, this is the main reason I bought the card hehe. should have really read up about it first. My bad :D

They should have sorted this out before launch to be honest or posted something more about it,yes i knew about it before now but you more likely have to dig a bit for it.

To be fair the info just wasn't out there as everything is still very new.

ATi's literature always said for Eyefinity one display MUST be displayport. Problem is, everyone (myself included) read that and just thought 'I guess we can use an adaptor on the DP output'.

There's still a thought which suggests that an ACTIVE DP->DVI adaptor might work, but I've not been able to find them for sale to really see how much they cost in the UK.

That's ridiculous given the price of monitors with a DP. I guess they cant use 3xDVI cos of the limitations of DVI max is 3x 1680x1050 @57Hz which is why the Matrox TH2G cant do resolutions higher than that. Hoping an active adapter will do the trick, i saw one on another site for approx £15, not cheap and not sure if it would even work

edit just saw this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18058402
