5th May UK regional elections discussion and results

Can any one recall a moment where Khan has publicly put his religion over policy? I honestly can't. This is a good thing. It's another nail in the race card coffin.

That aside, he will probably improve public transport and tackle segregation of ethnic communities which is most definitely the root of the current social problems in this country.

If he attempts to enforce policy that favours Muslims, he will be done. Why would he do that? Makes no sense.

Indeed. Except one of them had such a disgraceful campaign strategy his own family has criticised him for it ;)

My understanding was the racially targeted letters on Goldsmiths campaign were in the name of David Cameron? My personal opinion is the dirty campaign is representative of the Government.

Agree, but goldsmith needs to take some responsibility.

Goldsmith was my local MP for a while and I quite liked him, he campaigned mainly on environmental issues and was the target of negative campaigns rather than the instigator. I also think there's quite a lot to be said for a politician that is so filthy rich they aren't going to be swayed by financial gain.

Then I've read the stuff he's put out for this campaign :/ I can only assume he's been advised by someone from the Trump school of politics. Total **** up.

To be honest I did see it coming, you only have to visit London these days to see who has the majority there now.

Wow - the butt hurt in this thread over the London Mayoral election result is palpable - it's glorious!

Who cares. As long as he leaves his woo woo joo joo voodoo gods out of it and just run the city, it doesn't matter. The moment he brings religious nonsense into it, I'd be throwing stones with the rest of them.

Firm, but fair.

Of course, it appears that 80+% of Londoners didn't vote for our new Mayor and he's very unlikely to hold sway over the London Assembly.

So no real power at all to make London better or worse.

The one thing that stuck for me in Khan's campaign was the freeze on fares. I really think this can't be delivered without consequences and I think he will break this pledge or in the next term somebody is going to have to do some cleaning up (Khan or his replacement).

I have no doubt that TFL needs some slimming but could this result in strikes, or lack of investment in new infrastructure or inflation nesting price rises in the next term.

Anyway, he gets the chance to prove he can do it, so lets see.
