7970 vs 680 thread.

I dont think hes disputing the results at all. Hes just saying that the reviews seem really biased as they are not really showing what each card is really capable off. Its plainly obvious when you unlock the potential of the 7970 as most users of this kind of card would do that theres nothing between the 2 cards. Anyone disputing this fact is either an nv fanboi or just plain in denial. The evidence to support this is all over the internet to see.

Why don't we have them OC the 7950 as well and have them declare that the fastest GPU. Shouldn't be a problem considering it is near enough the same performance as a 7970 at same clocks.

Fact is cards are reviewed on how they perform out the box and not how far you can clock them. And thus every review I have looked at has confirmed the 680 the faster card. If AMD wants to reclaim the crown then they should fire out 7980 clocked right up or get some boost clocks going.

Lol at the over clocking bull crap again. That is all.

Comparing a stock to stock card is completely fair. TBH the GTX680 doesn't over clock itself to cheat, it simply runs in an under clocked mode and ramps up to its full speed if needed, a wonderful powersaving feature.

This is simply not true. From what i have seen around the internet on different forums the gtx680 was getting upto 1100mhz on the core during the reviews. Anyhow i agree with running both cards at there stock clocks but if i was a reviewer i would want to tell the whole story and not just half the truth. Surely these reviewers know that people like us would want to see how the 7970 compares as it has so much potential left unlocked at stock.

Totally agree, the fact it overclocks is a feature just like intel CPUs, I haven't heard anyone accuse them of 'cheating' as Andy seems to think they are.

There's a reason Nvidia outsell AMD and have done so for the past however many years and thats purely down to their marketing department. Some AMD cards outperform NV cards and vice versa but the real reason they're winning is in the battle for the mind of the consumer.

Now there are plenty of AMD fanboys but I know a lot more who simply buy NV because it's NV irrespective of real life performance comparisons and this ultimately hurts the market pricing as it allows NV to charge a premium for the NV badge instead of needing to compete solely based upon performance. Branding 101 - adding value without increasing performance.

Now NV got in this position like many brands by being the best initially which created followers and as we see with many other brands you don't need to remain the best to keep the largest market share from that point on. I'm guilty of this with Corsair RAM which if I were to think impartially are no longer the best and yet for this reason I'd choose it over another stick of memory that may slightly outperform it.

It is human nature and it's interesting for me to see a microcosm within this thread

I expect to see overclocked results in a few weeks. Reporting on them on the day of release would be silly and unreliable.

So LOL at all the overclocking crap? You know what, I might even put that quote in my sig. Just to remind you of it every day for the rest of your life.

Am I meant to find that insulting? You are clearly flaming and trolling just about everyone posting in this thread.

If you don't like how the reviews were done then contact and complain to the reviewers or write your own.

I really dont mind the way the reviews were done, i just think they could have answered the questions that many around the internet are asking. Its not just on this forum its all around the internet. Its maybe so they can do follow up articles and get more hits on there site but still people want the answers before they buy.

Exactly what I was going to write. At the end of the day AMD released their 7970 with clockspeeds that were too cautious. End result Nvidia reclaim the fastest single GPU out of the box, there's no ifs or buts just facts.

I've been following these threads for a while and the GTX680 is very nice but I have no need for it.

But the worst thing is even though he is denying it, ALXAndy is acting a bit over protective the AMD 7970. I don't see the point? It is a graphics card...

True and we may have got a cheaper 680 or a faster one for the same cash.

As soon as the mediocre 7970 was released at well over £400, this just made it so easy for Nvidia to release a mid range effort and charge the same. If AMD had charged the correct price, then this would have meant Nvidia would have followed.

Here go, I will let you all into a little secret.

I got banned from Overclock3d for slagging off the 7970.

Little did they know I had one slotted into my PCIE slot.

Mind you, I think the chart I posted upset a few 7970 owners.

Ho hum can't win em all.

You lot can write all the walls of text you want, doesn't change the fact that both cards seem to clock to similar speeds, and therefore perform within a few frames of each other.

680 generally a few frames faster when clocked, but purchasers run the risk of running out of framebuffer in the odd scenario, whereas 7970 is vice versa.

End of the day both owners have reason to be happy.

If that's what you think then you really don't know me very well at all.

AMD is an anagram of something you become, if a 680 is better.

So now when reason and truth fail you move onto the ditties. Please leave this thread, honestly I cringe for you.

You're really embarrassing yourself.
