To celebrate the launch of the super powerful IMC on the latest generation Intel Haswell CPU I decided I would run a competition based around the king of all memory tweaking and overclocking benches Super Pi 32m. Super Pi 32m is the blue ribbon event of 2D benching and is the one all the top clockers strive to master and compete in. Haswell is very efficient in this bench and so this is the perfect time to introduce such a comp.

I am currently in Taiwan at Computex entering the Corsair Main event to compete for a prize fund of $20,000 of which the main prize is 32m based. This again shows how hard this bench is to master.I am to be the subject of full streaming on OCN if you want to watch me in action!!!

The rules behind this competition are as follows:

-The competition runs from Sunday 2nd June to midnight Sunday 30th June.

-The person with the lowest time to complete Super Pi 32m Time at the closing Time wins the prize.

- The prize is a full Intel Haswell 4770K Upgrade kit to include Intel 4770K CPU, After Market Air Cooler, Corsair 2 x4gb 2133mhz RAM and MSI Z87 GD65 Gaming Series motherboard. The Bundle will come with a Super Pi Profile 8 PACK has tweaked himself for optimal bench performance. He may also be persuaded to do a 24/7 overclock profile too;)

- Submissions by forum members only.

-Download Super Pi mod from here
http://downloads.hwbot.org/downloads/benchmarks/super_pi_mod.exe

-Run 32m with your CPU at 4ghz Clock speed and if your CPU has Uncore with Uncore at 4ghz too ( I will give a 1% allowance in this so if CPU Z in your submission screen shot shows 4040mhz or less you are ok, I am allowing this as CPU-Z often shows 100.xx BLK even when you set 100 in Bios) Any CPU can be used.

- All submissions must be on the competition Desktop Background which can be downloaded from:http://imageshack.us/download/28/8pack4ghzchallenge.jpg

-All submissions must have a screen shot of the time at the end of Super Pi 32m and Pi calculation done box.

-All submission Must have CPU Z open on Both CPU Speed and Type Tab and Memory Tab as bare minimum. MB and SPD of Memory can be shown if you wish. No CPU Speed and Memory Tab no submission.

- No software can be used at any stage to during the benchmark run interfere with the speed of CPU, Memory BLK etc.... If it looks too good to be true it is and the submission will be removed and the submitter banned from the rest of the Comp.

- 8 Packs decision is final!!!

Seems a bit pointless. The person who gets the lowest time is least in need of the prize.

Stupid competition IMHO. (and this is coming from someone who could enter if he wanted to as well)

What'd you propose they do, the person with the worst score gets the stuff :p?

Why do people always want to see the negative to everything, looks like a good competition, and isn't the first I've seen.

This should be for users who are getting the best results out of their low end kit.

+1

How is it a positive thing, whoever has a high end K processor, high end motherboard and high end ram will win this meaning they don't need the upgrade

Exactly this. And then they will probably just sell it, still new and boxed and pocket the money, when someone who might actually appreciate the new kit could have benefited from it.

I'm going to honest, i'm extremely against this. I think it is a stupid competition 8 Pack. I'm not going to sugar-coat my thoughts.

there probably won't be many entries so you could gamble a bit, buy the parts, get a score and then DSR them :p

EDIT: or cheat and produce the most realistic looking photoshop version :D

Maybe do what they did in the past - Set a target score, person closest to that target wins. For some people this will mean overclocking, others may have to underclock.

Maybe say the closest to 8 seconds wins it. Or 9 seconds. Then its not about having the most expensive CPU, but being able to tweak what you have to get the exact desired result, small bumps on the CPU clock, maybe underclocking the memory as well, things like that.

I really appreciate the competitions that OcUK runs, but as others say, a competition which is based pretty much purely on outright power is going to favour those with the most expensive rig already. Heck, my CPU can't even manage 4Ghz.

If it was lowest time, on any kit with any configuration I could see peoples grievances.

But it is limited to 4GHz and thus shows who can get the MOST from a 4GHz clock, which leaves other things than JUST core frequency alone to play with. The sort of people who will enter this should be able to attain a 4GHz clock very easily with almost all of the last few years worth of kit. You do not need to be cutting edge.

Hold on, so its the best super pi score with a 4Ghz CPU.

That seems reasonable to me?

You need a 2500K or above to stand a chance of winning though. And whoever has a 2500K or above, and a high end board, will undoubtedly get the best score. How do they need an upgrade exactly? They will probably just sell the new gear on, new and sealed. I know I would.

There is also the possibility of cheating as well. There are a-lot of dab hands at photoshop on here, all we need is one of them to be a little bit dishonest, and they have potentially won. It wouldn't even be a difficult job. And there is no way to prove that the screenshot you post is of your own doing either.
