84% Of Gamers Do Not Meet Recommended Spec for BF3

Quite liking the look of this game, but if its not on steam I'm not buying it :(

As far as I'm aware it's Origin only... I don't see why this is such a problem for people, it's just another piece of software, loads of companies will bring their own platforms out in the future to compete against steam. It's just something we've got to get used to. the only inconvienice is having to repopulate my friends list, but that should be no reason to stop me from playing a quality game.

Can you buy retail copy and link with Steam for friends?

I'm contemplating going for another 560 ti OC in SLI..... but will see how it copes first.

Hmmmz, I genuinely think (no trololololololloling) my trifire 6970/70/50 will struggle on release as the current state of crossfire support for brand new games is simply shocking.

However that being said, this is one of the biggest releases of the year and I would hope that due to a beta coming out before the final release, everything will be in order.

I swear I will boil over with geekRAGE if funnily, RAGE, runs like poo next week :)

It just makes everything far more complicated than it needs to be.

Very few game distribution clients are well coded, almost all of them tend to be bloaty, poor interface and want to start with my PC bootup and/or have to be running to play the game, inevitably they have their own friends list, etc. seperate from each other. Most of them add an extra 1-2 steps to actually getting into the game rather than being more convenient.

Rather than having a dozen different clients and having to remember to reinstall them, remember settings and login information when I reinstall the OS, etc. etc. I'm just gonna stick with steam, which unfortunatly or fortunatly depending how you look at it has the virtue of being the first widely adopted distribution platform and for the most part is a convenience to the consumer.

Even if you buy retail disc it will still activate through origin.

For me EA are doing what Activision and Steam did, and thats forcing people to activate through a certain portal inorder to get the origin client on to your machines!

Steam did it, why cant Origin?

I didnt want Steam on my system when I bought MW2 either, but there was no other way to play it!

Fine - I understand that, but will I be able to play or launch BF3 with Steam so I can play with my usual friends and invite them to game etc?

I just prefer to shop in one place, rather than have 100 logins for various sites, game accounts, etc

I understand what you're saying, but the same could be said for Steam itself. Several games I've played recently required Steam to play Co-op even when you use the ingame multiplayer interface it doesn't work without Steam.

Origin while in it's current state is 'bloaty' compared to Steam (72k vs 15k in tskmgr) it looks better and is easier to navigate imo. So for me Origin so far is fine and fair game to EA for doing it, but like stated, this won't be the last... don't be surprised to see Ubisoft redesign their Game Launcher software into something similar.

... Games for Windows Live... thats just an abortion xD

I agree with you 100%.

I just can't skip BF3 for those reasons.. :(

WELL PLAYED, EA!

What's more ludicrous is the fact that people actually buy BF3 (and many other games) from Origin (or even Steam) for the absolutely ridiculous prices they charge. I'd rather save £10, even if there is a possibility that I receive it slightly later than if I were to buy from Origin.

There's loads of voucher codes floating around the web which you can use in Steam/Origin to get things cheaper, I personally got BF3 pre-ordered for £19.99 with the 'first expansion', but the code has now expired. Although you're right most of the time everything is the same if not more then the high street.

I did buy BFBC2+Vietnam+wep unlocks for £20.99 from Origin the other day... I thought that was a good deal tbh.

Same could be said for steam granted but its become established and has the advantage over the others of a head start.

I don't even have a problem specifically with Origin tho I dislike the way EA has handled it, but I don't want to do anything to encourage each publisher, etc. to think they should have their own client.

“It’s awesome,” says Magnusson when asked about receiving direct feedback from fans who have played the version on show here at EuroGamer Expo. “Hearing back from the community that they actually like what they see… Some people are really into the visuals, some people are completely snowed in when it comes to audio, some people are just worried about the game, etc… All the feedback we get is really freakin’ cool.”

With release fast approaching the other members of Magnusson’s team are answering more and more questions about all elements of the game. In a response to a tweet, DICE’s Global Battlefield Community Manager, Daniel Matros, said that gamers will need two GeForce GTX 580s to run Battlefield 3 with Ultra graphics settings enabled. This was after first revealing that the Recommended System Requirements, announced a few days ago, are suitable for running the game on medium settings. So, as Magnusson suggests, it’s “time to start building rigs at home.”

IMO £20 should be what brand new digital releases should cost. Would have bought it myself from Origin if I knew there was a voucher that halves its price..

Always prefer having a hard-copy, anyway.

I plan on 3D Vision with this game, I have one GTX 480 and I have no doubt in my mind it will play at max settings with 3D Vision.

If you off-load sound and networking to dedicated cards and then tweak your system. Don't forget any possible over clocks of CPU, Ram and GPU.

Not at 1920 x 1080, unless you can count 45FPS as good with sub 30FPS dips.

I am currently running x1 GTX 480 (845 core) with a 260K @ 4.6GHz on a BenQ 3D monitor 1920 x 1080 and running BFBC2 with 3D vision is far from ideal or smooth. Without 3D enabled it is just about passable but I will be getting my other 480 back in my rig soon :D

I don't think a single 480 will cut it with 3D enabled, unless you like sub 30FPS dips with an average of 45-50FPS
