8700K OcUK Stock and Binned Processors

Yours shipping today complete now Real Bench stability run 8 hours as well as usual testing.

Plug AIO pump into Fancha1 header which is just south of the CPU socket please. This is configured in the Bios for this purpose.

Ah man, superb!! I will be adding my new 1080ti + 2 or 3 ssd and a couple hdd's all i need now is a new psu
What wattage would you recommend to run this lot?
I was thinking 750 upwards...

Hmmm Yeah 800+ I think..
I'm happy so far, only built the system at the weekend so I'm still tweaking to optimise, was running a 6700k at 4.7ghz before. So far I'm running the 8700k at 5ghz at 1.296v set in the Bios however under stress testing cpu-z show this increasing to 1.312v. I've got one of the OCUK delidded chips so temps are good, stress testing the CPU in Aida64 I'm seeing high 50 Celsius, a couple of cores tip over into 61 - 62c. FPU stress test pushes this to high 60's, with a few cores going slightly over 70c. This is under a corsair H100iv2 AIO.

CinebenchR15 scores at 1635 and Firestrike at 35111, with 2 Titan X (Pascal) in SLI. My 6700k at 4.7 managed 1020 in CinebenchR15

I haven't had chance to benchmark much in games but quickly tested a couple. Initial results suggest that at 1440p with "Ultra" settings there isn't much difference, probably as the stress is more on the GPU.
Rise of the Tomb Raider at 1440p in SLI, Dx11, fullscreen, SSAAx4, HBAO+, Vsync off (Gsync on 144hz monitor), motion blur off, all other setting maxed
  • 8700K (5ghz) : Average: 99.09, Mountain Pass: Average 118.57, Min 68.26, Max 176.83. Syria: Average 84.79, Min 41.51, Max 111.09. Geothermal Valley: Average 91.55, Min 43.70, Max 147.53
  • 6700K (4.7ghz): Average: 92.13, Mountain Pass: Average 114.69, Min 57.54, Max 167.20. Syria: Average 76.22, Min 33.30, Max 105.88. Geothermal Valley: Average 82.84, Min 49.44, Max 137.16
F1 2017 at 1440p, single GPU mode, fullscreen, Vsync off (Gsync on 144hz monitor), all settings maxed, benchmark mode: Australia, clear weather, 1 Lap:
  • 8700K (5ghz) : Average: 118, Min 100, Max 143
  • 6700K (4.7ghz): Average: 118, Min 100, Max 143
I thought I'd test F1 2017 again but at 1080p to reduce the GPU overhead and push the load onto the CPU; single GPU mode, fullscreen, Vsync off, Gsync off, AA off, AF 16x, High preset, benchmark mode: Australia, clear weather, 1 Lap:
  • 8700K (5ghz) : Average: 273, Min 211, Max 327
  • 6700K (4.7ghz): Average: 259, Min 208, Max 314
So I'd say that despite increased synthetic benchmarks, the performance increase doesn't translate into real world gaming results above 1080p unless the title is optimised for more than 4 cores. I don't own any titles that are optimised for additional cores but from other reviews I've seen online the 8700K stretches slightly further out than the 4-cores in these. Although I primarily game I do some video editing so the 6 cores should help with this, hence the reason I opted for the 8700k as I still wanted maximum performance in games

glad to see there's not much difference in it at all, I struck gold with the 6700k and its my fav CPU so far to be honest can do 4.9ghz so I think i'll stay put for a bit longer.. another issue is coffee lake doesn't really support windows 7 : - \ & I hate win10

in your tests there would be probably even less difference with 1 GPU so that makes me even more content :p

Any idea when there will be stock for the 8700k, at least, in a more of a widespread manner?

Around 40 arrived a day or so ago, which went against shipping pre-orders. There is unlikely to be any product in free stock until next year by the looks of things, basically a case of pre-ordering and you should have goods in 2-4 weeks typically.

With stock clocks how is the cooling on these chips? I don't want a hot mess and won't be delidding or paying the extra for that option. I'll probably run a 240mm AIO on it.

^ well your stuck at 1.285V or so then for overclocking stability.

The premium is easily worth it for delid then your at 1.425V so can oc the chip further cooler....

Really no point to have a K sku and stunt it's ability to clock.

Win 7 working fine.

I literally just redone my PC the other day redone all the watercooling etc new thermals pads everywhere / paste / new ram etc also full reinstall win7 which took days to get setup right lmao & I really don't have the time again to redone anytime soon.. otherwise I would have ordered 3 retail 8700ks and kept the best overclocker & sold the rest if I had known it was fully supported in win7

:p
