8800GT Ramblings Thread

As usual, I missed out on the bargains. How much better performance does the 512mb give over the 256mb? When are the prices likely to come down slightly?

Now is there anywere in stock? seems all rpe order, thinking of ordering the EVGA GT 512MB for 176 quid, its 185 inc P&P.

Hyper, don't be an moron and incriminate others because you were so stupid to admit you were wrong in breaching the rules.

Shame OCUK doesn't have them in stock, big let down. But at the end of the day, the OCUK shop has a lot more customers than just the forum who arn't "really" tech literate but have heard it's gonna be a good card.

To go with the ramblings section of this thread, does anyone have any speculation about what this means for the new high end cards (i.e. GTX/Ultra replacements)? Since the GT makes the GTX effectively redundant unless you're running super high resolutions, who is going to pay nearly twice the price for a GTX? Presumably nVidia can't let the current situation go on for too long, with their previous high-end now completely devalued by a mid range solution? As it stands, you'd be daft not to get two 8800GTs if you had £300 or so put aside for a GPU upgrade.

Is there even going to be a new highend card anytime soon? I know the new GTS is coming out in mid-November along with ATI's new cards but i don't think even they have a new high end.

Oh and regards the pre order thing, other online retailers are saying they just need to go through the system as they are entering the warehouse atm. I'd assume this is the same for OCUK.

Have a good holiday.

errm... I was talking about the prices from OcUK, yea, I was asking weather would be good pre ordering the EVGA 8800GT from OcUK.....

So OcUK may actually have em in right now?/???/

Performance will plummit when you try to up the AA from anything higher than 4xAA
Only at high resolutions and the vast majority of people don't go above 4x anyway.
I like AA hence why Im happy with my GTX. Also I have the cash to afford it so no Im still laughing.
Bully for you but just because you can afford something doesn't make it good value. The fact remains that, in all but extreme conditions, the GT offers 90% of the performance of the GTX for less than half the price. An SLI GT setup would murder a single GTX and still cost less.

Whilst the GTX is still a good card and ultimately faster than the GT, it's now become very poor value next to the GT. If I owned a GTX I'd be looking at offloading it quickly before the used prices start to tumble, especially with the new GTS and possibly new GTX on the way.

Not really performance is 10fps less on average

Debatable ;). Let's wait and see as you'll be going off the benchmarks that we have now. Also running 1920x1200 with 2xAA wouldn't be so far off 1680x1050 with 4xAA. Is that what your screen is capable off Tom?, 1680x1050?.

Happy with your GTX?, never said you weren't. Just that Will at least has upgraded at the right time when you haven't. That's what I was meaning with having the last laugh :D.

Yes im going by the many reviews, are you saying they're flawed in some way?

But what if I don't want to "upgrade" , yet Im confused why your calling it an upgrade as the 8800GTX still remains top and rightly so.

tom its seriously SERIOUSLY close. im selling my GTX and i wouldnt do it unless i know i was going to loose a very large chunk of money on my gtx. it would be wise to sell up now, even if its to wait for the new gts
