8800GT Ramblings Thread

Only at high resolutions and the vast majority of people don't go above 4x anyway.

Bully for you but just because you can afford something doesn't make it good value. The fact remains that, in all but extreme conditions, the GT offers 90% of the performance of the GTX for less than half the price. An SLI GT setup would murder a single GTX and still cost less.

Whilst the GTX is still a good card and ultimately faster than the GT, it's now become very poor value next to the GT. If I owned a GTX I'd be looking at offloading it quickly before the used prices start to tumble, especially with the new GTS and possibly new GTX on the way.
Why are you telling GTX owners it's all over? You might be silly buying it now, but not if bought previously. So what if people want to buy the gtx, ultra, xtx versions, it is their money their choice. At the end of the day they have the better card, regardless if it's a smidgen of a performance increase.

I still wouldn't buy a gtx though as so expensive, but that's me.

Tbh i don't think it will be to hard to sell a gtx for decent money as the new cards are keeping the same name. People that don't know better will see 8800gtx and think ohh great let me buy that.

I was at work so hit refresh at 2pm, saw the BFG 8800GT OC2 for £192, and ordered it from OcUK using my mobile, so I wasn't really able to check this thread.

Have I epic failed? I guess I ought to actually research my purchase now it seems I'm not going to get it sent out today (Although they've taken the cash?).

Is the OC2 worth it over the OC, and what about the EVGA Superclocked? I was put off EVGA becuase I've heard they have bad customer service and that step up is a bit of a con.

Annoyed its come in at just over £200 delivered, I thought customer retention > making a quick buck from demand tbh, but thats life.

is there any point getting the Superclocked version as I presume the Normal version will clock just as well?

tom its seriously SERIOUSLY close. im selling my GTX and i wouldnt do it unless i know i was going to loose a very large chunk of money on my gtx. it would be wise to sell up now, even if its to wait for the new gts

Considering selling for one of the GTS's, but in all honesty I CBA.

These GT's will be £170+ for a good few weeks yet due to demand

If I can't get £250 for my GTX, the deal is not worth it at all.

The low mem bandwidth will cripple this card when you up the AA from anything other than 4x

GTS I will consider but for now the GTX stays.

Also I've ran out of popcorn :(

Some of those cards have "10 year warranty" specified. Is that for real? Have I been living in a cave or is that a new thing?

So anybody know the difference between 256mb and 512mb performance roughly?

i have a GTX and i agree with him. get out now or loose really. these 8800gt's, when they appear, are really rather good for the money. hell, one week ago, they'd have been good for twice the money, funnily enough, the cost of a GTX.

EVGA is not just about the step-up program. They allow you to change the cooler without invalidating the warranty too. Decent warranty as well.

I really would'nt get a pre-clocked card though. I made the mistake with this one. It does'nt overclock as far as some standard clack cards. Better to just get the bog standard one and clock it yourself.

Well I have kept the EVGA on order - nearly cancelled it, when all hell was breaking loose. This is the first time I have ever bought a new component on release and though part of me feels a bit shafted I am also really excited. I have been putting on hold playing Bioshock and MOH:A because I can't enjoy them on my 7600gt, so this is going to make a massive differance...and maybe I can get through them before UT3, GOW, Crysis, COD4 etc come out - which I'll now be able to play with some ease.

So I'm happy:D I think:confused:

No I am.
