8800GT Ramblings Thread

Maybe because this card has better performance than a gts. People sell there gts for around 150-170 and then buy a better card with not much loss in money.

but despite what the benchmarks say, would you really notice "visually" any difference? Will it make you play BioShock for example any better?

yes I have seen the reviews etc ;)

I've never heard so much hype in one day for a card that isn't exactly ground breaking. If it was next gen I could understand. ??

Basically is next gen, this is the 3rd lowest standard model. Expect the GTS and GTX to ramp up the G92 architecture and blow the G80 models out of the water.

why would you even consider buying one since you have a GTS..

Hell, I am going down from a GTX, never mind a GTS. Sure, I may see have slightly lower performance, but I am going to use the spare cash towards other parts.

And as others have stated going to one of these from a GTS makes sense as its faster... so long as you can sell the GTS for about what these cost.

.. are there any games your GTX is not capable of playing?

but that won't happen.. people will then say.."I can buy a GT for that"

In real world games, would you see much difference from a GTS?

The reason is my second rig has a 7900GTO in it and was thinking about putting the GTS in that then using the P965 DS4 and and E2160 sitting as spares for a media PC. But It's me birthday in November and the new GTS was always favourite unless I go for a new 40" 1080p telly :D.

An upgrade from a 7 series is exceptable but from any 8 series.. some of you must have more money than sense :D

All this talk.. I'm personally waiting for Jacob Billing to aquire one of these and *really* put it through its paces ;)

Im gonna be waiting for a couple of weeks until ATi release there card and compare that to the 8800GT.

I dont understand what the rush is to buy this new 8800GT when theres no games worthy of rushing to buy one.

My x1950xt still runs everything well, even cod4 demo & Crysis demo. Admittedly thats on 1200 x 1024 res.

Ill order a shiney new card when Ati has there new card released and when people post real world fps results on CoD4 & Crysis.

8800GT does look a really good card, I just wanna see what ATi delivers before I take the plunge.

More hyperbole from anand

"This launch really has the potential to introduce a card that could leave the same lasting impression on the computer industry that the Ti4200 left all those years ago. This kind of inflection point doesn't come along every year, or even every generation. But when architecture, process enhancements, and design decisions line up just right, the potential for a revolutionary product is high."

I still have a Ti4200 in my kids machine awesome card in its day.

That is my view too only not as extreme. The prices are needlessly high from every shop. The excuse is well its good bussness and competetive. But its just monopoloysing and having "deals" to keep prices high so all the shops do it. If one droped it then they would sell out like hot cakes and the other shops wouldn't like that.

This guy is funny :p

They are not losing any money to gain better performance thats the whole point of doing it.

how are they? There is no such thing as a straight swap for better performance..If you are presented with a choice of a second hand GTS and a brand new GT, which one are you going to go for?

I would say both the GTS and GTX second hand prices would need to be at least 50% less than the current GT price if they are as good as what they say they are. Hardly a swap.

So the question still is, has anyone managed to get their hands on one today, in their hands now ?

Whatever the reason for the 8800 GT, we are glad of its existence. This truly is the part to beat in terms of value.
So true.

Going by the anandtech review, this card is going to be my best buy ever, blows the 2900xt in to the deck, happy days.:D

Taking in account listing fees, seller fees, paypal fees and postage I am left with 220quid for my GTX. Now the plan was to get 2xGT for 280 total cost to me 60 (i.e. much cheaper than buying another GTX in sli).

Well that plan has now gone to hell

Looks like I will be stealing my brothers 8800GTS for now then (he plays WoW so he wont miss it :D)

Do you know actually know how fasat they are?

LOL

yep fully aware of the dx9 performance of this card.
Can you please tell me how good they are in dx10 please guru?
Thought not!
point im making is USA prices are close to predictions. UK prices all i can say is someone needs a new crystal ball.
