8800GT Ramblings Thread

ive never had to return a card so i wouldnt know, but i would have thought they would at least test the card to check what happened.

The extra money for the overclocked cards is for the warenty, overclock it yourself and if it fails, your down £180, buy the overclocked version and if it fails, its covered by the warenty
No not really, its more for the piece of mind of a guaranteed overclock. For those unwilling to chance a poor chip. You can hope they cherry pick the cores. :p

And they'll find it faulty, no way of knowing how it failed. Assuming you haven't disturbed the cooler etc, even then...

as long as you dont flash it the clock profile is stored on your hard drive so as long as you dont go nuts you will be fine.

on MM about 100 I would have thought.

but then again a 256mb 8800 GT can be had for 40 more so about 80?

I was willing to pay £90 for one, asked a seller for a price and was quoted £140. Five minutes later I say one go up on MM for £150. I thought I was going mad so I made a price check thread. :p

Am glad my initial thoughts of sub-£100 for a 320mb 8800 were correct.

Keeping it as a back-up.

Is what i would do. Also i plan on making a pc out of all the parts when i upgrade a full system and sellign it to someone. A year down the line after i have built this pc and start wanting to upgrade ill probably have enough parts to put to gether a pc and sell it to a friend as i doubt that many people will have quads in a year unless they built it them selves or pays a lot of money which my friends wouldn't.

Yeah i put another rig together with my old x1800 which was my back-up card, and gave it to my sis, so now gona use my GTS as back-up, ever i get a card failure ive got a spare, and the price of the GT's is nothing. :)

I'm super excited to get mine, I'm upgrading from a 6800NU (unclocked!) so it should be a nice jump in performance for modern games :)

I wanted to order from OCUK from I couldn't wait a few more days so have ordered a Gainward from elsewhere(sorry :(). Fingers crossed it's OK. I guess I'll be a guinea pig for those with the AGP/PCI-E hybrid boards (I have the Dual939 SATA-II).

Id sell it and get the new one :) then again its probably gona be quite a bit more then the current gtx it seems.

The way i see it at the moment there is only 1 game that my GTX cant handle 100% and thats cyrsis. Even if the new GTS & GTX are twice as fast as my current card i'm not going to upgrade till i can MAX out crysis, if they can do that then i will upgrade or its a long wait for the 9800GTX which should (hopefully) give cyrsis a good spanking :D

Looks like i'll be another one of those unhappy peps about the price hikes due to demand :(:( that will just w8 and see what happens to the prices in a few weeks or just end up ordering from somewhere that is not gonna rip you off.

Sorry joedeath but you deserve to be shot for typing 'w8' instead of wait my friend.

at 1600x1200 and above, nobody needs to..... thats really the point of all this. i challange anybody to prove they need anything above 4x FSAA at 1920x1080/1200 bacause at 1920x1080, you just cant see the difference.

Whether its needed or not some peeps will pay a premium just to have it, cost and reasons are not factors.

I ordered an EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (512-P2-E801-AR) in the heat of the moment.

What have I done?
Hope it comes this week.

Agreed.

It's like people who buy £80,000 "fast cars" to drive around London, where you can barely ever get over 50mph (and that's if you are not stuck in traffic). :p

Umm... the extra power of these cards can be used every day, games are out now that bring them to their knees even at 1680*1050.
