8800GT Ramblings Thread

Then why did you buy the BFG 8800 gts ? you are right but if it does go wrong i would rather have a 48 hour turn around through a retailer than a 6 week turnaround if that doesn't bother you get the cheapest.

6 weeks for you to send a gfx card back to the place you bought it for a swap?

Rubbish.

If anything goes wrong wih my new 8800 GT I will simply post it back to the online retailer I bought it for a replacement.

This will not take 6 weeks LOL

So which is the best reference card to go for? Who has the best customer service in the UK?

I know all the cards should be the same but I'd like to go for the best manufacturer in case of RMA.

Ordered a MSI 660/1650/1900 for £162 delivered :)

Was going to get the accelero S1 as well but the stock cooler actually covers the chips at the rear of the card where the S1 won't cover.

does evga's warranty aloow overclocking?
Yes it does. It will also allow you to change the cooler.

But, ALL 8800 series cards are made by the same two manufacturers (Foxcom and another I cannot remember). All other "manufacturers" simply change the sticker on heatsinks, or sometimes change the heatsink itself. That is why no card is guarenteed to overclock better than another.

Always go for the cheapest card, from a reputable retailer. That is unless a lifetime warranty (how long will you really use the card for?), or software bundle is important to you.

sorry il post it here and in my initial post.

Glad I chose an evga

EVGA warrants the videocard even if it is overclocked beyond EVGA's defaults. Also, changing the heatsink for a different one does not void the warranty either. According to EVGA's website, the "Limited Lifetime" clause indicates the period of time when the original owner possesses the product, and no time restrictions are placed on this time frame. Further, as long as installation of an aftermarket cooler does not cause physical damage to the card, the warranty will be honored as long as the original cooler is placed back onto the card prior to shipment back to EVGA.[

You don't factor in re-sale value... and brand/warranty can count for a lot. oN OCUK MM if you try and sell a crap-branded card people will beat your price down with a stick... if you have a top-brand like BFG or EVGA people will generally pay asking or close to it.

^^ No sorry I meant which of the 3 brands.

VR-zone received a GT from MSI, 1 from Sparkle & 2 from Inno3D, all pre-overclocked but they didn't make it clear which of the 4 made the clocks is what I meant.
