8800GT Ramblings Thread

I will be ordering one tomorrow to replace my GTS. I keep trying to talk myself out of it ;)

There has been a bug and they may explode killing all those in the house and possibly ajacent houses. Suggest you dont buy one ;)

On a more serious note why do any on you have to buy now? Why cant you wait for the gts to see how taht performs and possible price drops?

Lol, because i have waited long enough for new card, and sure im not the only one. :)

Becuase the second hand market for crappy old GTS's will collapse very soon if it has not done so already, making any upgrade cost very expensive.

I got nearly £170 for my GTS. Would I get that if I tried to sell it next week? Of course not.

haha, heard about that bug :p

I can sell my GTS for almost the same price give or take £10~20. Seems like a cheap upgrade for a little more speed. Also If I keep hold of my GTS anymore it won't be worth what I can get for it now.

...oh and its shiny ;)

Well I just put my GTS320 on the Bay, I must tell my mate sorry, due to the extra cost of the GT I just cannot afford to lose out the extra £35 odd!

I'll just make up for it by building his next PC which will likely be higher spec than mine :/ :)

thats it, the 320 gts is on the bay too, hope it sells quick. I want my hands on a new toy...............

lol, dont worry its listed, but i cant find it on a search ???

might have to crack the old credit card out tomorrow, and have a trip to OC.

edit: damn i see they are overdue at oc... hmmm

6 weeks for you to send a gfx card back to the place you bought it for a swap?

Rubbish.

If anything goes wrong wih my new 8800 GT I will simply post it back to the online retailer I bought it for a replacement.

This will not take 6 weeks LOL

A refund on a faulty product took 5 weeks on a well known site from up north which i won't ever be using ever again let alone an rma i dread to think how long an rma would take.In this case it's more about the site and not the warranty.
I am getting the cheapest 8800gt 512mb card i can find and looks like it's going to be an inno 3d card or MSi.

Yup it took me the best part of the day but I finally caved and bought the cheapest 8800GT I could find. Never used an Inno card before but the mob seem to think it doesn't matter too much which brand you get :D

Was very tempted by the EVGA Superclocked version but the price difference between that and the Inno goes most of the way towards a 3rd-party heatsink if this single slot jobbie turns out to be a munta!

Who on earth cares about brand, if you spend too much time worrying about which brand to get you cleary ain't hardcore enough :p.

You need 1-2 years warranty at the most, which most of the cheapies come with anyway (are you really going to keep a card longer than 1-2 year?)

Buy em low clock em high best way, all the same hardware :D

Hell I have an OEM GTX good to go @ Ultra speed. :D

I think the place you buy from is more important and their relationship with the brand i am sure certain brands have a very poor rma procedure in place and the retailer cannot rely on what that brand will do and when they will do it.

That's why Bfg and evga are good, retailers know that when they send them a faulty card there's no hassle and can just send you out another as a replacement.

I wouldn't touch an xfx zotac or whatever it's called or xpertvision simply because of the long turnaround and support issues i have read about end users getting.

HI All
everyone seems to be talking about this card and its use in games. but how good would this card work for vista 64bit. would it give any overall improvements over a 7600 GT in vista ?

Vista 64 should be reasonable, and a 7600GT vrs 8800GT (based on reviews and stuff) is pretty massive to say the least.... the latter being soooo much better its probably impossible to calculate this early in the morning
