8800GT Ramblings Thread

So, Has anyone got one of these 8800GT's playing Crysis demo on very high with playable FPS?

Do they need to be overclocked to get good playable fps on Crysis?

How do you actually overclock a G-card?

Im thinking of getting one of these when Crysis is released. Provided you lot recon its worth it.

So im thinking that I should get 40-60fps on Crysis with a 8800GT, all settings on V high?

Other specs:
q6600 @ 2.88
4 gb Geil @ 800 mhz
17 inch tft 4:3 @ 1200 x 1024

Will OCUK be stocking the Zotac models?

I want :)

My non amp edition Zotac gets higher than that score :D

Great cards!

Make sure it's patched - performance appeared to improve a lot with the latest compared to the released version. I'm interested in knowing the performance in NWN2 if you get a chance to patch it. What res are you running at?

Yers that was patched, the game auto downloads all the patches, fixes, updates and extra quests at start up. Must have been about a Gig of stuff. As for a benchmark Im not sure I can take loading the game up again, however if I were to estimate I would say (baring in mind this was in a small room with 2 NPCs) max 20 min 3. I will run fraps for you sometime tonight m8 and give you a better idea.

Out of curiosity, has anyone not managed to overclock there cards to 700/2000?

Edit: res was 1440x900

I doubt it, even people with 8800Ultras aren't getting those kinda framerates on very high, nothing seems to be able to power it along at those kinda detail settings.

I'm sure it'll be fine on regular high though and still look great :)

Oh, so DX 10 cards cant really do dx 10. That is really poor, so they expect you to buy a a card for a minimum of like £170 upto £350 ish and it cant even do top wack dx 10 settings.

Looks like my x1950xt will have to last until decent dx 10 cards are released.

Please do a search on crysis, the developers have said plenty of times that they designed it so it'll still look great in a couple of years, if that's the case then it's obviously not going to run maxed out on current hardware. DX10 cards will 'do' dx10, there's just some extra eye candy there waiting to be unlocked in the near future when more powerful hardware comes out.

The story seems to be that if you want to run it maxed out at 30+ fps then wait for the next gen nvidias (9800s).

Yup, anyone played Lost Planet in DX10 on this yet ? any other DX10 games out btw too ? we know for a fact the UT3 engine will run super fast with everything up on these :)

well im playing on my x1950xt @ 30fps on medium and dont notice any lag at all.

So the 8800GT can do High with what level of AA?

Any indication of when the 9800's are coming out?

Looks like i've successfully installed it. I've just ran the driver cd and restarted my comp. Have optimized my display am now wondering if their is a newer driver version and what applications i should run for testing things?

Thanks to those who have helped btw.

Would appreciate a little advice as per above post. Thx

Use the latest WHQL drivers, and test it by looping 3DMARK06 until you're satisfied you see no artifacts.

I do 30 mins of ATi artifact testing then just fire up some games and see how things go in a good gaming session.

Never had an issue this way :D

Here is a stock GTX comparison.

1680x1050...again
E6600 @ 3.6Ghz
8800GTX @ Stock this time

Even though I do have a 100mhz CPU OC over Raven you can see the GT is still not anywhere close even when its been oc'd

@ Raven, can you put your GT to stock and see how it does

This is the case in Source anyway.

Sounds like somebody is desperate to convince himself the GT is rubbish :)

If your referring to me your wrong. The GT is a great card I have openly admitted that, would be ridiculous to admit otherwise

Im just throwing some real life GTX results into the mix instead of reading sugar coated reviews.

Fox you sound out your depth go back to Motors :p

I don't get it GT is never meant to take on the GTX so of course the GTX will be faster...

As said for nearly half the price of the GTX it's the bargain of the year.

Throwing some GTX results into the mix as some people seem to have got it into their heads the GT could compete with the GTX OC'd ;)
