8800GT Ramblings Thread

p5nsli mobo
c2d e6400 clocked to 2.4
2 gig ram

Not sure what else you would need to know? My 8800gt is the cheaper BFG one from ocuk. BTW, i ran the full 3dmark 06 test.

Hhm, I'd have expected a bit more than that, but then looking at the database there are people clocking that CPU 1000mhz more than what you have it clocked to, so that is most likely holding your score back?
Here's an example:
39...12515 | Crilly | intel e6400 @ 3455mhz | ati 2900xt 512mb @ 865/1000

On my rig that you see in signature (with 1 GTS 320mb though) was scoring 10,378 at best.

The Nvidia Control Panel, you can get to it from Start, Settings, Control Panel, in there is the Nvidia Control Panel, or if you have the Nvidia icon in the tray, you can click that, go to Performance and Quality Settings, and Antialiasing Settings to bring it up to, then switch it to advanced at the top. :)

When i benchmark 3D Marks, from the tree list i select, Adjust Image Settings with Preview (you get the spinning Nv logo), and select the bottom bullet point Use My Preferance Emphasizing, and drag the slider to the left for perforamnce, then Apply it.

Then from the list, manage 3D settings.

Anistropic Filtering set to App. Controlled

Gamma Correction is On by Default.

Antialiasing Mode set to App. Controlled.

Antialiasing Transparency Off.

Conformant texture Clamp Use Hardware.

Error Reporting Off.

Extension Limit Off.

Force Mipmaps None.

Multi Display/Mixed GPU Acceleration Single Display Performance Mode (for 1x card)

Stereo Display mode just leave as is

Texture Filtering Anisotropic Sampling Op Off.

Texture Filtering Negative LOD Bias Allow.

Texture Filtering Quality High Performance.

Texture Filtering Trilinear Op. off.

Threaded Op. On

Triple Buffering On.

Cheers Loadsamoney, i done exactly as you suugested. Ran 3dmark06 again and scored 9765. An increase, not much but an increase never the less!

Thanks your help, is appreciated.

Notice how you are close at 4xAA but when higher AA levels are applied the GT takes more of a hit over the GTX as I said and the gap widens. But yea I'd choose one over a GTX of course I would if I didn't have a GTX already. Doesn't mean Im about to sell up for one of these though as It really isn't worth my while as I first thought. :)

Good results though.

Bearing in mind I paid £260 for my GTX I'd get about £240 for it now possibly less, then to buy one of these I'm looking at £180?

CBA with the hassle. Im waiting for the next GTS/GTX.

EDIT : Raven did you have LOD set to High Quality in NVIDIA panel?

This card kicks ass!, I would pay 200 for this card lol, feels like a breath of fresh air from my 2900XT, in the other 8800GT thread I posted CSS Stress Test benchmarks.

A happy Will :D. TOOK LONG ENOUGH!!!!!!! :p (thank fork for that but no need to Gainwood over it :p (joking)). Can I ask you to shut up about the x2900's performance till I get rid of my card though?. Every time you mention 2900's and bad performance in the same sentence, one dies which leads to bad publicity which then gets paranoia flowing on the bay of E's and then I will get buttons for it and yes I mean buttons .

I've got all my pictures taken of it. All I need is a pic or two of specs and get it on there. I want to be another happy GT user posting my groovy results. 3 week old 2900 rollercoaster ride for me. From an incredible price to performance ratio to a hot rod paperweight in 3 bloody weeks. I feel robbed. I want to be another thorn in Toms side as he seems to love these GT cards (pinch of salt Tom ;)).

RAVEN YOU TRAITOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D.

Re done my Benchmarks

(Turned High Quality back down to the default setting of Quality)

Seems to be performing better I didn't know that High Quality starved frames so much :p and doesn't even look any different on Quality!

Same settings and clocks as before.

Here is the CSS bench redone with Default Quality settings (presuming this is what Raven ran his OC'd GT at)

This card cost me £152 and its the best value for money I have ever come across in all my experience of benching and playing with Hardware

Crysis is playing fine AT 1680X 1050 with 2 X AA

Half your post seems copied and pasted :D.

About this being the fastest and best valued card you've had. Well that's the future for ya ;). Congrats on the score Easy and Raven (traitor) :).
