8800GT Ramblings Thread

Id love to know where you people are getting these cheaper ones, i must have checked about 5 different sites, all are the same as OCUK :( My Asus order is now out of stock, so ive no idea where or when im going to be getting my card now :/.

I checked almost everywhere known or well known at least 30 sites never saw this price for an alpha dog.
Must be some secret site.

Well i'll pick one up or the new gts end of month but tbh i wouldn't touch an xfx as they have terible press at the moment in regards to rma's and warranty's
would have to knock off £10 against other 8800gt just to get shot of the thing.

what are the temps like on the new 8800 gt series what with the single slot and the small fan, considering 2 of em in sli or perhaps wait for the new gts

About the same as 8800 gts apparently some people saying it's hitting 80-90c but i don't think they are running a fan profile.
The smart money will go on the gts imo 30 fps in crysis just doesn't sway me glad i didn't rush in now will await the new gts but tbh i am not holding my breath i definitely want a card that eats crysis for breakfast. Will see what happens with my gts the non paying bidder says will have to pay next monday waiting for wages etc but i think that's a cry of help more than something i can count on.My guess is he's seen the new gt and is now squirming his way out.
But yea i would have bought the gt too had my sale gone smoothly but too late now everyone on that place is clued up now.

my 640 gts idles around 54c, at load clocked at 630/1500/2000 gets to about 70 degrees, i have pretty good case cooling with a side fan blowing over the card. the new gt is definitely impressive but if theres a new gts on the way i might just wait for it, as for the crysis demo ive found the best setup for me is mostly medium settings, shaders, shadows and post processing low at 1680x1050 no aa i can get upto 80fps in bits and down to 20 in parts but its still quite playable. im lucky as far as cash made some loot on the horses at the weekend and its burning a hole in my pocket :D

£*** delivered for an xfx alpha dog ? hmm sorry don't believe that. In fact i don't believe that was even with vat added let alone delivery.
Unless you have some "special arrangement" or special discount deal going on i simply cannot find that product at that price anywhere even with £10 off discounts.

Lol.

Easy is right I bought one too :D

the GTS will only be a few more fps ahead... not even worth bothering about, Crysis is not for this gen of GPU's. The 8800GT is the best price/performance option for now and the next few months until the next-gen monsters are released next year.

Agreed. Just keep it until the top end monsters come out and sell the GT with a loss of a few quid. Perfect!

Hoorah!
My Gigabyte 8800GTs have just arrived. They'll be going in my PC within the next half hour, as soon as I get in from work.
:D

Benchies, benchies, benchies!!

Yup that's what i'm thinking. They priced the GT so that it would drop the GTX value... So they're clearly going to fill the £300+ brackets with something new and, hopefully, awesome. Also, releasing it so close to the GT was smooth, since we haven't really seen anything of a new product, probably because of all the GT hype.

What are the rumours?

I have bought a GT and will sell my GTS 640. Of course the new GTS should be faster but it will probably cost a fair bit more than the GT and I was not planning on spending money on upgrading my graphics for the next year. For me the GT is a no brainer because it is a upgrade that is not really costing me anything. I don't view it as a real upgrade where there is a large leap in performance but rather a small boost.

I am at work and have just recieved my card so I can't compare it to my GTS. Are the GT's longer than the GTS's because if so I will have to rearrange my drives to make space.

> these are meant to be $200-250 cards, given the weak dollar thats £98-120+vat.

yup, BBC finance bod on 10pm new yesterday was going on about how the weak dollar was good news for buying stuff from the US as it would be much cheaper now :-)
