8800GT Ramblings Thread

Was in my local PC shop this morning, not a big outfit at all, and lo and behold they had some Asus 8800GT's in stock.

Well, it would have been rude not to!! ;)

It's in my pc now, early results show about a 2k increase in 3dmark06 score over my outgoing 8800GTS 320MB, both with the same CPU and at stock clocks.

Initial run through on the Lost Coast HDR stress test show very little improvement though, so not sure what's going on there.

Got to go and provide free tech support to my Mothers pc now (!), so don't have any more time right now to have a rummage!!

Just installed my Leadtek 8800GT

The card has been totally silent so far, I've noticed in some Bios Screen's and Vista's boot screen there is a grey border around the image but goes away once into windows. I assume this is something to do with PCI-E 2.0.

Just installed drivers, 8800GT totally at stock and processor, E6300 @ 3.15Ghz
scored 11157 Happy so far.
My GTS overclocked @ 630/2000 scored 10602. Now the fun begins... :D

So it does seem the 8800gt at stock is almost the same as a gts @650/1000 1500 shader then as that scores around the same with a duo at 3.2.

Right first Overclock,

Leadtek 8800GT

Core/Memory 700/2000 - Shader Clock - 1750

3Dmark 06 - 12110

Ran through perfectly, going to try for higher now. :D

I get 12074 3DMarks at stock:

GPU: 600Mhz
Memory: 900Mhz
Shader: 1500Mhz

I'm held back by my processor @ 3.15Ghz. It was running fine at 3.3Ghz for ages then started to have a few problems so clocked it back.

The Leadtek clocks quite well. Second run with the following clocks no problems at all...

GPU/Memory : 720/2100 Shader Clock : 1800

3DMark 06 - 12327

Hi all

Hhm, looks like these cards work better with Intel over AMD. I had an 8800GTS 320 that was overclocked, tried a single 8800GT at stock and there was only a 500 point increase.
Or was your GTS 320 running at stock too?

OK now with some real world tests. Both cards running the same drivers.

Crysis (On the beach)

18-25fps all @ high - 8800GTS Overclocked 630/2000
30-36fps all @ high - 8800GT Overclocked 720/2100

35-50fps all @ medium - 8800GTS Overclocked 630/2000
50-75fps all @ medium - 8800GT Overclocked 720/2100

It's made a big difference to Crysis. Its now more than playable on High and runs smooth as ice on Medium.

:)
