8800GT Ramblings Thread

I just ran through a couple of loops on crysis benchmark and temps were no higher than 74deg at stock, i used rivatuner to monitor temps? I thought these cards run hot ie 85+

Funny you should say that

Awaiting my attention

my cpu is a very poor letdown for my machine but at the moment im getting 8100 ish in 3dmark06 at 725/1850/900, i dont bother verclocking the memory as it seems to make naff all differance the shader is my main aim followed by the core.
my cpu wont go past 2ghz its a 2140 but i have G33M issue :( (currently sourcing a trade of motherboard from somewere to a p35)
any higher and i dont get artifacting the driver just seems to stop working or so the error says, is this likely to be a voltage problem rather than the core being physily maxed out?

Hooray!

Just checked my email, and I see my BFG 8800GT OC has been shipped, and should be here tomorrow.

A pointless post, but I felt like sharing, to celebrate ;)
Should prove to be a nice step up from the 7900GTO.
(which I sold for half of the cost of the 8800GT) :)

Just hoping it'll be nice and quiet.
I don't think the BFG one comes with any games?
Still, never mind, pre-ordered Crysis today as well :)

V1N.

I just upgraded from the same card, this thing flies and i cant hear it, even under load!

Well I was a bit worried when i first put mine in as it really did sound like a shuttle launch! Once the driver was installed though, this was sorted. Got Riva with fan profiles now and it only steps up to 60% fan duty which is quiet enough. Just don't let them run at 100% or your desktop may orbit into space. LOL

My GTO has always been... well, silent!
I guess it isn't, but I've never heard it above the sound of the PSU/Chassis fans/HDDs, with the exception of when I first power the machine on... can hear a whoosh before the system posts, and that's it. It's never hit that level, during gaming/3dmark tests etc.

So hopefully the 8800GT will be the same, fan never speeds up to 100% anyway. I'll bear the Riva fan profiles in mind if it proves to be a problem, having never used them before.

I've also got my eye on this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-023-AR&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=787

So will have to read up if that's any good.
I think it looks pretty cool, passive means silence :) and only £16.

Still, of course, will try the card as-is first.

I just didn't like Nvidias drivers/software tbh. It would happily let the card run at 90dgs and yet still only output 29% fan duty, and I'm not one for high temps which is why I chose to use profiles in Riva. I'd much rather have a fan noise and significantly lower temperatures.

However, I now have an additional 80mm fan blowing directly onto the 2 cards, and while gaming it doesnt go over around 67dg now, and that means my fan is at 60% due to the profile I have set in Riva. It only gets upto 100% at 85dg or more but it just doesnt get anywhere near that with the additional fan.

I was only really getting high temps in a benchmark I was runnning, and games don't seem to stress the cards as much it would appear.
