8800GT Stock?

Well, my BFG 8800GT OC2 512MB arived at 11am and dispite watching the van driver kick somebody elses package out of the way to get mine, it all works :D
Running with:
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPU's)
Asus P5N32-E SLi Motherboard
4GB OCZ Reaper RAM
and now the BFG 8800GT OC2 512MB
Giving a 3DMark06 score of 11518 and the ability to run Crysis in Extra High DX10.

Thanks OCUK, you have made my year!
A word of warning, if you are realy going to push this card, make sure you manualy set the fan speed to 100%, as I left it on Auto and it was reaching 71 degrees Centigrade and caused the card to stop working for a few seconds. The fan is a tad loud when spinning at 100% but put your headphones on and you cant hear it :)
use rivatunerand save your ears 70% seems enough to keep it below 70c or there abouts the noise level is vastly exaggerated
it's only loud when you go over 70%,70 just sounds like a nice whoosh.

almost bought one yesterday as one etailer was selling them for around £150 inc VAT. Had left my credit card at home though. Look again this morning and they're pretty much all sold out bar one or two at £180.:(

Ahhh the frustration!

Well my card arrived in the country, I've been tracking the parcel online on Maltapost......

28 Nov 2007 10:13:12 PM - Arrival at Marsa General Post Office (GPO).
28 Nov 2007 10:14:04 PM - Departure from Marsa GPO - Courier
29 Nov 2007 6:45:40 AM - Arrival at Delivery Point - R05 (Beat ID)

Any idea what "Arrival at Delivery Point - R05 (Beat ID)" could mean?

Afaik the courier leaves from the GPO directly to my house... but nothing came to my house! Where the heck did he go??

Gutted :( My card was shipped the 22/11 to Switzerland and the Royal Mail status is still
We have received your item, posted on 22/11/07 and it is being processed for delivery abroad.
I still have not received the card today (7 days after shipping took place), there is nothing in the track & trace of my postal service & OCUK tells me to... wait. At £14.75 for the priority service, I think it's rather poor, some kind of lottery. 2 days to Malta and ?? days to Switzerland.

I really think that the card is lost somewhere in UK since the T&T status has not changed for one week now.

I'm really considering the option to contact my bank because I see no other option now. I'll wait until next thursday though but no illusions.

OCUK rules but Royal Mail, first time, last time for me.

Sorry, I'm so bitter. :(

CityLink returned mine to the depot with a "The goods have been returned to the branch after an unsuccessful delivery attempt." notice on the website.

As it's being delivered to an office full of people (although not me, today), I find that amazingly unlikely, especially as I've had no problems with deliveries there in the past (including my whole new rig from OcUK just over a year ago...)

Grr. I'll be in tomorrow. They'd better bring it then.

And they did. The guy reckoned that Citylink deliveries were going to be manic for the next 4 weeks, so have patience grasshoppers.

Hurrah. I just hope it fits in my case... :/

Noise levels are fine for my card, i think it helps that my set-up sounds like a stand up desktop fan half the time anyway though...

As was mentioned, it does seem to be ever so "slightly" exaggerated about the noise, my stock cooler on my Sapphire 1900XT was much worse ;)

It never seems to go above 65c, and if it does i've set Rivatuner to put the fan to 60% for it, which cools it back below that threshold pretty darn quick, so all in all, top card me thinks :)

I think the noise-level issue is very subjective. Not everyone's ears have the same tolerance. Also it compares with which pc you are installing the card in.

For example, at work I've got an Asus Vintage containing just a mobo and psu with 80mm fan, a core2 processor with stock fan and 2gb of ram. Seriously it makes absolutely NO noise whatsoever, you can't know whether it's switched on or off unless you look at the blue led line switch on the front of the tower.

On the other hand my pc at home has got one 120mm fan and 2 x 80mm fan in the case, a 120mm fan in the psu, a 92mm fan for the cpu and the fan of my present 8600GTS.

That's 2 x 80mm fans versus 2 x 120mm, 2 x 80mm and 1 x 92mm....

The noise doesn't bother me, but it is heard (unless I'm playing music or games when my speakers will obviously pwn any pc sound, which admittedly is 90% if the time).

When I get my GT tomorrow I plan to first test it out with ATItool to see the temperatures it reaches under load. If it goes over 85 I will program rivatuner to change fan speed according to temperatures. Then I will post here as to whether the noise bothers me or not.

If the noise is really bothersome then I'll look into purchasing an Accelero S1 cooler. :)

I have used rivatuner with the following settings:

Fan Speed 45% > 65 (centigrade)
Fan Speed 50% > 75
Fan Speed 60% > 85
Fan Speed 100% > 90

So far, even with the heater on in the room, it's never used the 60% setting yet.

And its whisper quiet at 50%. Not that I'd hear it when gaming anyways lol!

hmm I was promised on the phone today that my 8800 would be despatched today...
but currently it is sat on Printed in Warehouse on my orders overview :S ... not quite sure what that means heh
not going to be happy if it doesn't arrive tommorow as it is fairly urgent.

Mine has spent all day on "Printed in Warehouse" too - a step up from yesterday when it sat all day on "In our Warehouse queue". Apparently there is a huge backlog of orders they are trying to clear. Your card and my card may well have left the building, but the system hasnt updated yet. All we can do is wait and see

It did! :D

And it's freaking AWESOME. My last experience with an nVidia card was the 5200, and boy have things come along a bit since then...

Just swapping from an X1900XT to the 8800GT AMP! has gained me 4650 3D marks (an extra 79% on my previous score). Hooray! :D

I've got a Zotac standard edition to install from an X1900XT. Hope I'll be impressed as you are, what resolution do you game at? And what CPU do you have?

I'm jumping with anticipation of getting my GT tomorrow.

I've got an 8600GTS and my highest ever 3dmark06 score was 5934 with the same rig in my signature, but with my card OC'd to 754/1126 (from 650/1008) just for the purpose of running the benchmark. Otherwise I've always played games like Oblivion at stock clocks... Guess I'd be seeing a significant difference...

I hope everything goes well tomorrow, the card arrives and I get a good card... fingers xxx'd
