I think I'm going to go for 2x 8Gb 290x's. Would my PSU be ok? It's an EVGA SuperNova G1 1000W
Should be all good there.

This, i run two custom cooled 780's in sli. As single cards, they wont go over 65c at stock or oc'd. But, as a pair the top one can get to the low 80's. Bottom one still no higher than 65c. The heat added to the case has the knock on effect of adding upto 10c to cpu temps. 74c vs 64c if i run the cards with an fps limit to keep temps down.Custom for single card use in most circumstances is better. If it wasn't then what use is a Custom cooler. The only time a reference might be better is in really small cases where it's useful to dump the heat out of the case. If you have good air flow then custom coolers should run cooler and quieter every day of the week.
I was on the verge of purchasing a 970 or 980 since recently buying an Oculus Rift DK2 which is a bit sluggish on my GTX 570.....then all this fiasco started with the 970.
I'm leaning towards getting the KFA2 980 SOC whilst it is on offer now at 400. However for the rift it does appear that using DSR can improve visibility quite a bit, so wonder if hanging around longer for the 980ti with hopeful 8gb might be a wiser move, as won't be able to afford to to upgrade for quite some time. Any indication what a realistic GTX 980ti 8gb (or equivalent) price in the UK might be?
Reference card all the way. Blows heat out the back instead of custom card that blow heat in case.
OMG that is terrible
Had my first shot of an occults rift last night and was very impressed. I can't see 3d at Cinemas or on Tvs but using the rift I can. This to me is the 3d technology that all have been waiting for. Even those that were here last night and can see 3d think it's a big step up. If I were you though I would wait for the full 1080p release version as picture quality ain't to great. The technology is great though.
yeah the tech is great. I did have the Dk1 which was 720p when it came out, but got rid of it not too long after as I suffered terrible motion sickness. The DK2 with pentile display and 1080p is much better.....far from perfect but still great. I did try to resist until recently waiting for the consumer version but it looks like it'll be a long time yet. Even if it is announced the back end of the year there will probably be stock problems for sometime.
Its still not clear if the current Crystal Cove prototype is 1440p or 1080p still but with a special filter over it (but they say it is significantly improved), but with the current set I've read a lot that use it with better cards and use the DSR it improves the quality a lot in what looking at.
The existing 570 I have does run a lot of the demo stuff great, most is fine, but some of the main games, eg Elite Dangerous, is very sluggish, at high settings. It isn't great at low settings either, but seeing the difference in game shows how some games you NEED to have details on high. Whilst trying to track spaceships around by looking around, seeing the smoke trails of the ships adds an extra super immersive effect and aids in finding where the ships are....whereas on low these sort of effects are disabled and the immersion drops massively
Both your Gpu`s seem to be stuck at 540 Mhz ,unless afterburner is getting confused?
Yeah, I noticed that. Trying a few other games, Hitman Absolution, Bioshock Infinite all run with the right 1380mhz boost. Going to try a few more games with high VRAM requirements. If not, dying light is just borked.
Those of you thinking of going Quad CFX with R9-290x 8GBs you might want to see this
