Will I?

If so how much, £25 or so for 3/4 maybe 5/6 months of gaming, thats fine by me, if the 290X runs 1440P nicely then I'll keep it longer anyway

Its the principle for me, the fact of the matter is nvidia bent the truth about the spec of a product I purchased in which I'm taking the opportunity to return it and will never buy nvidia again, I think what they have done is really bad but saying that I think how OCUK have handled it is fantastic they will receive all of my future orders from now on

But then won't you lose money on the 290x ?

175 on a tide you over card is epic....I think you've rushed into it...

1440 p gaming is still niche and there is no better 1080p card than the gtx 970
I concur... single 970 to single 290X is just pointless, especially as a "tide you over" card. Should have just kept the 970 if you're upgrading in 6 months time, probably be worth the same by then anyway. I don't get why people seem to be reacting as though the 970 has become, or is soon to be, a useless card?! It will be great at 1080p for AGES yet, and won't be any the less desirable to the vast majority of gamers in 6 months time. This forum seems to create the impression all gamers are at 1440P+ and SLI'ing cards left, right and center, slamming up against the 4GB limit on a daily basis, it's ridiculous! The reality is that 90% of gamers as a whole are still at 1080p and know NOTHING of the 970 fiasco, nor do they care.

Yeah i agree Legend pointless in changing your 970 if you're gaming at 1080p but what do you recommend for people who are going to buy a complete new system and will be gaming at least 1440p?

I would argue that in six months time a GTX 970 will be worth more than a 290x currently selling at 175 in MM

The gtx 970 is a great card and will be for the significant future...they just won't plummit in value because of the ram...to most it doesn't effect the majority of gamers....unless we see a massive price drop in 1440 p Gsync / freesync monitors :p

I'd agree, if you MUST get a new system today, the Vapor-X OC 8192MB will offer you the most longevity, but it's only really worth getting an 8GB if you're getting x2 of them, otherwise 4GB is enough. You'd run out of GPU grunt before you utilise the 8GB anyway. If you can wait though, worth seeing what the 3xx series will bring around June time. You could always get a cheap card as a stop gap until then. An alternative to the Vapor-X 8GB is the MSI 8GB card, which is quite a lot cheaper. As someone has previously asked, I don't know that the Vapor-X is £100 better, although I believe it does have a superior cooler, I've not seen them directly compared.
