Did you deliberately miss the parts of my post where I said I won't support Nvidia and I also said each to their own. I'm not judging the consumer it's Nvidia I'm disappointed with, ultimately I will just vote with my wallet. What others do is up to them.

I dont care if you support nVidia or not :p This is about you claiming we're ignorant when you posted that 'story' - sounds like judging the consumer to me, and ironic as hell.

Man some of these guys must be so blinded by some twisted sense of fanboy loyalty that just can't see why Nvidia are at fault here.

Literally amazing, must be nice though to be able to remain in blissful ignorance. That's a trait they share with Nvidia.

Yeah you're not judging anybody are you...

I'll be RMA'ing my cards.
Might be goodbye to nVidia from me. Depnds what AMD bring to the table...

What OcUK doing with all the cards they get back?

Sell them on as A/B grade?
Send them back to manufacturer and claim back?

ignorant is believing something to be true just because some American purple shirter said so.

Seriously, we all know nvidia screwed up. We all know that and we all agree on it, so let's move on. What people want to do next up to them and If people want to keep their cards then who are you to judge?

anyway, if you could tell me how having less rops than originally reported affects the performance of my card then you might hope to begin to have a point....

It's not about the performance of the gtx 970....it's fantastic card...

It's the stated tech specs....these are false and this is unacceptable regardless...

When I did my weekly shopping today I bought a six pack of Pepsi Max (I'm going somewhere with this honest). When I got home and opened it to drink a can I discovered it did indeed contain six cans, had it only contained five my reaction would not have been "oh, well thats okay, I didn't want to drink six right now anyway" it would have been "I paid for six, I'm returning this".

Just saying.

I concur... single 970 to single 290X is just pointless, especially as a "tide you over" card. Should have just kept the 970 if you're upgrading in 6 months time, probably be worth the same by then anyway. I don't get why people seem to be reacting as though the 970 has become, or is soon to be, a useless card?! It will be great at 1080p for AGES yet, and won't be any the less desirable to the vast majority of gamers in 6 months time. This forum seems to create the impression all gamers are at 1440P+ and SLI'ing cards left, right and center, slamming up against the 4GB limit on a daily basis, it's ridiculous! The reality is that 90% of gamers as a whole are still at 1080p and know NOTHING of the 970 fiasco, nor do they care.

anyone whose sidegrading for the next 2 months with another 4GB card isn't thinking clearly.....just back off your settings

think, there might be only one more game coming out that'll tax your rig before the 380X is due, or dont buy that game until after the 380X comes out, because you must have something to play till then.

It should be about the performance.

nVidia get it wrong/lied in the tech specs to reviewers, then didnt correct it when the review came out or any time after that until these events.

These specs cause issues for some people, almost completely in relation to SLi. I've seen reports of single cards stuttering but it's always been in games that other cards struggle with as well. ie, not the best evidence.

whether the card has 64 rops or 56 or 32 makes no different to me - my card performs the same regardless. same as it did in the reviews which is why i bought it in the first place. all this stuff about nVidia lying, it's going too far.

The card has been specced incorrectly..this is not up for debate....it's black and white....performance is irrelevant...

No, it's very relevant because of the implications in SLi. If it wasnt, people wouldnt have known in the first place.
Indeed no one wants a card with less than 4gb if running with res above 1080p in sli.....

That's totally the point....!

Spec the card right and let people make the right choice for their situation...I bought a gtx 970 to get another for sli when I get a new 1440p IPS monitor in March...now I'm stuck with potential issues with this desired upgrade path...

Another thing people fail to realise is that developers will normally program certain features according to how much memory is available.
For ultra settings they will load everything into a 4GB card / High settings for a 3GB card, etc. When the gtx 970 reports that it has 4GB then everything will be loaded in but due to the slower 0.5GB you might get stuttering at certain settings.

It may not happen in current games but give it another 6 months and things may be a lot different. I'm guessing Witcher 3 will use as much memory as reported by the card so may have some problems with the gtx 970 unlrdd Nvidia get the programmers to limit it to 3.5GB.

many people are in this situation with the second card upgrade path being not as good as expected, its why so many find nividas response so crass.the thing i dont understand is why some people are still trying to defend them?

They fixed this yet or apologised for telling porkies?

Not unless both AMD and NVidia want to redo all the packaging of all dual GPU cards to start with.

Now should I RMA my 4gb GTX 690.......

If Nlieia allocated all the 4Gb to one core your Sli wouldn't do squat, but you know this, **** counter that one.

The rest carry on but claiming dual cards come with wrongly specced vram allocations imho is stupid tbph.:D

Then dont tell me performance is irrelevant when clearly it is relevant.

They way dual card memory is speced on the box is exactly the same as the GTX 970, it is all there but no explanation is given to how it is used.

I would not have bought the card if I new of this issue...the specs had no mention of the .5gb section of the total 4gb....

I bought the card based on specs..I never bought into a gimped card...regardless of performance...I wanted an upgrade path...

I'm gaming at 1080p at the mo....so it's not an issue..the 970 flies and I love it...but this will not be the case after spending 600 plus on a 1440p panel in March...I want the best performance I can to run this monitor and I would not have bought a card in December with 3.5 gb of Ram and a slower 500mb section...

Yep this is what i might do, but i'll probably get rid of it when the 390/390x's come. Won't be giving Nvidia money again any time soon.
