970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

If those die hard nvidia fans won't buy an AMD GPU it's very unlikely they would trust a new company on the scene. You mention those buying 980's but said even if they challenge mid range, well then this wouldn't affect the majority of the die hard nvidia fans who generally buy the top cards.

They obviously believe that the cost of rectifying their mistake would be greater than any revenue lost through disgruntled buyers.

Simple business decision unfortunately.

I have no choice but to stick with my 970 but it doesn't bother me too much as I only paid £260 and will be gaming at 1080p for a good while.

If I had paid £300+ for two cards expecting some longer term high res action then I would be fuming.

Well said!

This 970 dominates my 280X so I'm happy, besides I don't care for 10XAA,16XAF and +500 LOD :p

Ummmm

I know the 970 is great value and still a fantastic card....

However my new new 980 is a little more than a few percent better

My top stable Fire Strike Overclock on the Inno3d 970, was 10497

My top stable Fire Strike Overclock on the Inno3d 980 is 13467

I appreciate my new card is a fantastically fast card and it is a huge leap from the 970 but the performance is a lot higher than a few percent.... more like 28%
My heaven benches were 71 vrs 90

is this indicative of the difference in the cards as a whole or I missing something.

i too noticed up to 20-30fps difference between overclocked 980s vs 970s the cards are not really close at all but people would lead you to believe you can get almost 980 performance and save £100 but its really not like that

Didn't see it sorry for the double post.

Anyway I've decided to wait this out until new cards come out. I've slapped my R9-290s back in my system (GTX970s are on there way back) and tweaked the voltages a little (due to heat issues because of abusing the cards when mining).

The R9-290s are a lot smoother at 4K and the FPS is much higher in nearly every game I have played. I'm really feeling dumb for not using them in the past.

Now I need to see what Nvidia and AMD have to offer on faster and 6GB+ VRAM cards. The GTX980s imo aren't going to help me much with the 4GB VRAM. The R9-290s are beasts at 4K and handle everything I throw at them for the time being :).

OCUK are refunding first owner purchases with them taking the damage.

Nvidia are moving a long like nothing has happened.

thanks a lot m8, so what do i need to do in order to send the gtx 970 ring OCUK?
