970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

Well good for you that's your choice you've made it why bother posting Im here then you don't even have a 970 stop bothering other buyers and justifying your slower card and stick to the amd threads

Don't be a gooseberry it's about the principal. Nothing to do with what card I'm running. I can afford do buy which I prefer. I can see how the petty mind can get confused though..

He'll change his tone once he gets another Nvidia card.
You'll notice with boom, if he owns AMD he's their biggest fan. Likewise with Nvidia, when he had his 980 all he would talk about is how great Maxwell is (yup, the 970 as well ;))

Ahh whatever Tonester.. Usual carp as always.. You don't think I can afford to buy whatever card I want... Try not to think so small minded..

This is about the principle. I always give honest impressions on hardware I use. I have never been a fanboy of either camp and have always bought from both camps up until Nvidia did this. You are trying to take away from the actual issue here.

I will not condone any company falsely advertising and washing their hands of any responsibility. With no support for their customers.

Only a moron would want to support this. The petty minded will try and pass it off as something else, damage control for their favorite brand.. Oh well. I think these helpful pics will sum this all up nicely and might be more helpful for the simple minded.

Enjoy being played Nvidia fanboys :D

Have you seen the DX 12 results? I wouldn't be so hastey in truth.

You do realise DX12 exposes more hardware to the developer? As such it will become increasingly more difficult to cover the failings of the 970. At best Nvidia could block the 2nd memory bank completely. That would leave a 3.5GB card in a world where developers optimise for 1,2,3,4 and 8GB setups. At the moment though Nvidia is staying silent.

Everyone should be returning 970s while they have the chance. Nothing to stop people buying the 970 again when a solid fix becomes available.

£300 to me anyhow is a lot even though i am well above the yearly average income.

It does not matter if it was £10 or £1000 if you buy something that is falsely advertised then simple i want my money back...Its illegal and then there is the principle of the matter ...

The way nvidia is dealing with this is shocking ...

Yes it is still a great card and there is nothing else out there price par performance and power usage and nvidia know this hence one of there reasons being quite...

Either way nvidia will pay for this legally and losing customer loyalty..

Now this return thing being 1% this bugs me because how can they come to this figure and say its low when most people are not able to return there cards i am sure this number would be much higher if everybody could ...

I have had enough with nvidia and forgot about me going Amd ...that's it i am going MATROX

Is bold your new thing?
Those pesky carp though, we have a trout problem down here. As for you not being a fanboy, LOL! You're not in the usual sense, but you do get very proud of whatever vendor happens to be in your machine, your posting style changes. It's a wonderful thing to watch, i'm sure i'm not the only one to notice.

that was my thought about sending them back, do it now while the option is there and if its the wrong decision then just buy them again

So the GTX 970 is still a great gaming GPU for 1080p, 1440p but if you breach the 4GB vram - stutter might happen (like other GPU's), is that the conclusion?.

Roughly yes but I would rephrase it as :

So the GTX 970 is still a great gaming GPU for 1080p, 1440p FOR NOW

I know fanboyism is a weird psychology, but a fanboy having a go at someone for not behaving like a fanboy and actually thinking that they have some kind of point is a first for me I think.

That has got to be the worst post I have ever seen.

Lmao @ Boom. Whatever you use, you claim it as the best and then rip everyone else. It is laughable in truth and makes for amusing reading.

The problem of not being a fanboy is that you get to see all sides of the fence so when fanboys post nonsense about stuff they clearly have no clue about you can call them out on it.

Your average fanboy sees this as strange behaviour, I mean, how could someone find products from two brands to be good? It's simply not possible!

No the conclusion is that the gtx 970 has less rops than advertised and can only use 3.5gb ram. After 3.5gb the games tend to go stuttery as the bandwidth for that last 0.5gb is so low.

What no one including nvidia or anandtech has disclosed yet is how the gtx 980m is effected. ..

Would that not be 'Unaffected' the 980 has the 4GB at full speed, the full 2MB L2 and full 64 ROP's.

To me this backs up the case for buying the best available of a range :), no problems with the 980 then?
Not sure what to think really. Only just noticed this issue being talked about. On first appearance it seems the cards do have 4GB of ram, just that using the last 0.5GB can degrade performance in low % of cases at the moment? I agree it's not been marketed like that and if I owned one I#'d be surprised too - as I would expect the usage of the full 4GB to have no detrimental effect.
I remember Windows 32bit systems being sold with 4GB or more where the average buyer had no idea that this amount was not fully addressable by the OS and don't remember that being such a scandal :)

Hopefully Nvidia learns a lesson from their mistake.

Personallly affects me in no way in buying nvidia again. If I owned a 970 yes I would be a bit miffed but still a pretty good performing card for the £ and for the uses it's intended for.

I understand why NVidia are getting flak from GTX970 users for not disclosing the true specifications but there seems to be a mixed conclusion of the overall performance of the 970, some are saying there is stuttering with high vram usage some are saying that games in general play smooth enough. I use GTX 780 2-way SLI with g-sync and I experience stuttering/hitching, it all depends on the game and what graphics settings you choose to enable.
