Would that not be 'Unaffected' the 980 has the 4GB at full speed, the full 2MB L2 and full 64 ROP's.
Im wondering about the 980m the mobile part.

The problem of not being a fanboy is that you get to see all sides of the fence so when fanboys post nonsense about stuff they clearly have no clue about you can call them out on it.
Your average fanboy sees this as strange behaviour, I mean, how could someone find products from two brands to be good? It's simply not possible!
It is very possible to find products from both brands to be good. It is actually what you refer to as a fanboy who would be unable to do this.
A good example of both brands having good products is the GTX 980 and 290X. The 980 is good at low to medium resolutions and the 290X is good at very high resolutions.
So the GTX 970 is still a great gaming GPU for 1080p, 1440p but if you breach 3.5GB vram - stutter might happen (unlike other GPU's), is that the conclusion?.
The problem with SLI would appear to be that with all that GPU grunt, you'll be bumping in to that 3.5-4GB range more often with certain games at 1440p and above (and that list of games will only grow), and it's within this VRAM range that the stuttering issue is likely to occur, due to how the card has been designed. With a single card, this is less likely, and at 1080p it's also less of an issue. That's how I understand it anyway, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.Isn't SLI meant to extend the life at the top graphics? Obviously not in the 970's case.
I need to figure out whether it would be best to send them back and get my £600 back or keep them knowing that I may need to upgrade them sooner than planned. It is the lack of options that worries me the most. A single 980 would cost what? Nearly £500 and even that isn't suitable for 1440P alone...
If only I didn't sell the 290 already :/. Could have got by on high settings and looked at my options again in 6 months.

This post makes no sense...Selling it and then buying something as a 'stop gap' is also flawed, keep the cards, save yourself the hassle and then jump over to AMD. Use the 970s as your stop gap, at least then you can see how they cope with age.

LOL.
I actually stepped up mine with EVGA. Great program and helpful support staff.
Just get rid...buy a stop gap and wait for the 3xx series....
970s reputation is now flawed....
You seem awfully too involved with a card you don't own.
