970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

Very unwise if you are worried about memory problems.

If the rumours are true and the 380X comes with HBM you may get more than you bargain for, as these cards will probably be the first to use it I suspect there are going to be teething problems and some of them could be far more serious than anything to do with the 970.

Thing is tho, Nvidia knew this was the case ages ago when they started testing silicon and throwing ideas around how to cut down the 980 to create a cheaper version. This is not something that just 'oh oops how did that happen'.

With AMD the same thing, they know NOW if there are any problems. Although coming clean as we have seen with Nvidia is a different story.

There is probably a lot more things about graphics cards or computer parts in general that manufacturers keep to themselves that never see the light of day.

It is up to us to catch them out and expose them.:D

My cards work fine, but i'm not happy with all of this so i'm going to switch back to AMD as well...as for FC4, it's a krap game anyway the 3rd game is miles better.

i shoulda got the MSI Lightning

hmm.. so if people return their cards to ocuk whats the crack ?

if you brought a 4gb card how can they argue if its 3.5gb ?

genuine question.

I just done a clean install of my driver to remedy some NCP issues.

Running Mordor at 200% I noticed something on my 2nd monitor...

** Edit **

It's a stuttery mess, but haven't got time tonight to suss out why exactly.

Lol.

You've had problems then Amatsubu?

Well, whenever I try to push the card a bit more so that it reaches that magical 3.5gb barrier there's obvious hitching. Surely I have the right to assume that something's a bit off? Unless I'm actually pushing more than 4gb of data it shouldn't happen, should it? It might be chalked up to software not reporting it correctly but how can I know what's happening if I can't see to what extent the last 0.5gb is being utilised (if at all)? I do not normally play using such settings but there may come a time when games will eat up a lot of vram without any sort of aa etc. It's already happening. I was just curious and checked what all the fuss was about.

The card is ok for now and I'm happy with it. But something's definitely happening there and I don't see anything lol-worthy in me deciding to switch to a different card if things go south somewhere down the road. This time I'll wait it out a bit longer though. Maybe there's a special feaure on the new AMD cards that launches a nuclear strike on your gaff when you run out of vram;p

Didn't mean to come off as sounding a bit paranoid though. Sorry for that.

Either way... it is very naughty of them. I wonder what the fallout is going to be.

Has something like this ever happened in the past? Mass recalls and swaps?

Yea, it's all made in China and that equals cheap slave labour, they treat their production staff like utter ****............. it was on Panorama the other day

At least we can ease off on Ubisoft can't we, they were obviously paid to make overly stuttery games as Nvidia knew their next gen cards were going to have stuttering/memory issues and needed to hide it :p

In reality and not being funny, absolutely don't let off Ubisoft for the ridiculous amount of bugs/stuttering present in their games. Maybe people should actually be giving Nvidia a bit more grief over Ubisofts games this year, games which Nvidia bundle with their cards and while they are going around proclaiming how they work closely with devs to make the best games and give the best experience. Yet I would say the majority had stuttering issues with at least one if not all of Ubi's main releases last year.
