9900KS...

Quite interesting that they're only offering a one year warranty on these, versus the standard three year warranty on other Intel chips (including the 9900K). Guess they don't have much confidence in their long-term reliability running at these speeds/voltages...

Not that I've had encounters with warranties, they've never been used but it sounds like I'd give this a miss. I was going to pre-order it but it looks like I'll be waiting until the next series. Which is a damn shame. I would like it now.

Surprised by the 1-year warranty. This will hurt it's value when selling on.

I like the irony of Intel's official marketing:
  • One-year warranty
  • Overclock confidently

An odd move to offer a retail CPU with "just" 1 year warranty when all others come with 3. It does almost lead the buyer into thinking there is some kind of defect or expected failure before 3 years.

Still though, likely not an issue if supply is as short as Gibbo says as they won't make it to normal users.

The boxed retail 9900ks only comes with one years manufactuers warranty? Is that right? Can someone provide a link, I have weak google-fu today.

Still, that doesn't change your own consumer rights with the seller, which is longer than a year no?

Due to limited volume... hmmmmm, tenuous bit just about acceptable. I imagine it will be the sellers that charge a bit more then, depending on local laws, to cover that. Which sucks.

Just sounds like the utterance of defeat before one starts, also intel for all their clout can't overrule local laws, we have a 2 year warranty as standard here, if they offer one, it doesn't override your basic laws and protections surely?

Good point, I'd forgotten about the EU minimum. Might only apply to the UK for another year though...

Unless we specifically revoke it, it'll be written into our law and last right through, including transition period.

-edit
This whole thing just stinks of, we've got very few chips, we're making them run hot, and loads will die or suffer burnout after a period of time, thus we're burying our heads now in a pretense to avoid admitting defeat.
It sounds like shocking marketing to me.
